Five new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the thriller Unforgettable directed by Denise Di Novi and starring Katherine Heigl, Rosario Dawson, Geoff Stults, Cheryl Ladd, Whitney Cummings and Isabella Rice. The film’s original music is composed by Toby Chu (Covert Affairs, Burn Notice, Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return, State of Affairs, Beyond). No soundtrack album has been announced. Also opening wide is the historical drama The Promise directed by Terry George and starring Oscar Isaac, Christian Bale, Charlotte Le Bon, Angela Sarafyan, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Daniel Gimenez Cacho, James Cromwell and Jean Reno. Gabriel Yared (The English Patient, The Talented Mr. Ripley, Cold Mountain, 1408) has composed the film’s original score. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as an original song by Chris Cornell. Also opening nationwide is the Disneynature documentary Born in China directed by Lu Chuan and narrated by John Krasinski. The film’s original music is composed by Barnaby Taylor (Wild China, Shank, A State of Mind). Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the original song Everything Everything by American Authors, which is also available as a digital single. Opening in around 1000 theaters is the action comedy Free Fire directed by Ben Wheatley and starring Brie Larson, Armie Hammer and Cillian Murphy. Geoff Barrow and Ben Salisbury (Ex Machina) have composed the film’s original music. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score, as well as songs from the movie by The Real Kids, Creedence Clearwater Revival, John Denver & more, and dialogue snippets. Also opening wide is the sci-fi horror thriller Phoenix Forgotten directed by Justin Barber, produced by Ridley Scott and starring Luke Roberts, Chelsea Lopez, Justin Matthews and Florence Hartigan. The film’s original music is composed by Mondo Boys. No soundtrack album has been released, but click here to listen to audio samples from the composers’ score. The movie tells the story of the disappearance of three teenagers who set out to find the source of the widely reported 1997 UFO phenomenon. The thriller is being released by Cinelou Films. Opening in limited release before premiering on ABC next week is the documentary Let It Fall: Los Angeles 1982-1992 directed by John Ridley about the years and events leading up to the city-wide violence that began April 29, 1992, when the verdict was announced in the Rodney King case. Mark Isham (Crash, Once Upon a Time, A River Runs Through It, American Crime, Quiz Show, The Accountant, 42) has composed the film’s original music. Also opening in select U.S. theaters is the animated feature Ozzy directed by Alberto Rodriguez and featuring the voice of Jeff Foxworthy, Rob Schneider, Frankie Quinones and Lexi Walker. The film’s original music is composed by Fernando Velazquez (Crimson Peak, The Impossible, A Monster Calls, Hercules, Mama, Devil, The Orphanage). Quartet Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last fall when the movie opened overseas.
