Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the horror thriller Annabelle directed by John Leonetti, produced by James Wan and starring Annabelle Wallis, Alfre Woodard, Tony Amendola, Eric Ladin and Brian Howe. The film’s original music is composed by Joseph Bishara (The Conjuring, Insidious, Dark Skies). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. Also opening wide is the thriller Gone Girl directed by David Fincher and starring Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, Kim Dickens, Patrick Fugit, Carrie Coon and David Clennon. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross who previously scored Fincher’s The Social Network and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo have composed the film’s original music. The third wide release of the week is the drama Left Behind directed by Vic Armstrong and starring Nicolas Cage, Chad Michael Murray, Lea Thompson and Cassi Thomson. Jack Lenz who provided additional music for Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced. Left Behind follows a small group of survivors who are left behind after millions of people suddenly vanish and the world is plunged into chaos and destruction. Opening semi-wide in over 400 theaters is the drama The Good Lie directed by Philippe Falardeau and starring Reese Witherspoon, Arnold Oceng, Ger Duany, Emmanuel Jal and Corey Stoll. The film’s original score is composed by Martin Leon who previously scored the director’s Monsieur Lazhar. Warner Bros. Records has released a soundtrack album featuring four tracks from the composer’s music, as well as the original song Find a Way by Nico & Vinz and tracks by Emmanuel Jal & Nelly Furtado, Melpo Mene, Run River North, Xavier Rudd and Ayub Ogada. Already playing in limited release since this past Wednesday is the drama Men, Women & Children directed by Jason Reitman and starring Kaitlyn Dever, Rosemarie DeWitt, Ansel Elgort, Jennifer Garner, Judy Greer, Dean Norris and Adam Sandler. The film’s original music is composed by Bibio. Warner Bros. Records has released a soundtrack album featuring Bibio’s music, as well as tracks by Cut Copy, Black Marble, Koreless, Four Tet, Bob Dylan, Louis Armstrong, Nick Hallett & Ray Sweeten and more. Also opening in limited release is the family movie The Hero of Color City directed by Frank Gladstone and featuring the voice talent of Christina Ricci, Rosie Perez, Wayne Brady and Craig Ferguson. Zoë Poledouris-Roché and Angel Roché Jr have composed the film’s original music. Also opening in select theaters is the historical drama The Liberator directed by Alberto Arvelo and starring Edgar Ramirez, Maria Valverde, Danny Huston, Imanol Arias and Gary Lewis. Los Angeles Philharmonic director Gustavo Dudamel has made his film scoring debut with the project. Another limited release this week is the action thriller Drive Hard directed by Brian Trenchard-Smith and starring John Cusack, Thomas Jane, John Cusack, Thomas Jane, Zoe Ventoura, Christopher Morris, Yesse Spence, Jerome Ehlers, Carol Burns, Christopher Summers and Robert Newman. The film’s original music is composed by Bryce Jacobs. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music earlier this year when the movie opened overseas. Also opening in select cities is the thriller Stephen King’s A Good Marriage directed by Peter Askin and starring Joan Allen, Anthony LaPaglia, Kristen Connolly and Stephen Lang. Danny Bensi and Saunder Jurriaans (Enemy, Martha Marcy May Marlene, The One I Love) have composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack has been announced yet.
