Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the animated sequel Planes: Fire & Rescue directed by Bobs Gannaway and featuring the voices of Dane Cook, Julie Bowen, Stacy Keach, Brad Garrett, Danny Mann, Teri Hatcher and Ed Harris. Mark Mancina (Tarzan, Twister, Brother Bear, Speed) who previously scored last year’s original film has composed the film’s original score. Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as the original song Still I Fly performed by Spencer Lee and three songs by Brad Paisley. Also opening wide is the thriller sequel The Purge: Anarchy written and directed by James DeMonaco and starring Zach Gilford, Michael Williams, Kiele Sanchez, Frank Grillo and Carmen Ejogoro. The film’s original music is composed by Nathan Whitehead who also scored last year’s original film. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. The third wide release this week is the comedy Sex Tape directed by Jake Kasdan and starring Cameron Diaz, Jason Segel, Rob Corddry, Ellie Kemper and Rob Lowe. Michael Andrews (Neighbors, Bridesmaids, Donnie Darko) who has scored numerous films for Kasdan including Bad Teacher has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced. Sex Tape follows a happily married couple who use a night off from their parental duties to spice up their love life by making a sex tape. Opening semi-wide in over 700 theaters is the dramatic thriller Persecuted written and directed by Daniel Lusko and starring James Remar, Fred Dalton Thompson, Gretchen Carlson, Bruce Davison, Dean Stockwell, Raoul Trujillo, Brad Stine, Natalie Grant and James R Higgins. The film’s original music is composed by Chris Ridenhour (Sharknado 2, Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus). No word on a soundtrack release. Persecuted follows a televangelist who is framed for murder after he refuses to publicly support a U.S. senator’s plan. Opening in limited release is the indie comedy drama Wish I Was Here written and directed by Zach Braff who also stars in the film alongside Kate Hudson, Joey King, Jim Parsons, Ashley Green, Mandy Patinkin and Josh Gad. Columbia Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the movie, including new tracks from The Shins, Bon Iver and Cat Power + Coldplay, as well as songs by Baldy Drawn Boy, Paul Simon, Gary Jules & more. Opening in Los Angeles and New York before expanding to more markets within the next few weeks is the indie sci-fi drama I Origins written and directed by Mike Cahill and starring Michael Pitt, Brit Marling, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Steven Yeun and Archie Panjabi. The film’s original music is composed by Will Bates and Phil Mossman who previously scored Cahill’s Another Earth as part of Fall On Your Sword. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score, as well as songs by Radiohead, The Do and Phaedeon Papadopoulus. Also opening in limited release is the French fantasy drama Mood Indigo directed by Michel Gondry and starring Romain Duris, Audrey Tautou, Gad Elmaleh and Omar Sy. Étienne Charry has composed the film’s original music. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as several tracks by Duke Ellington and the song Spring by Mia Doi Todd.
