Two new movies are opening nationwide this holiday weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the superhero sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past directed by Bryan Singer and starring Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Peter Dinklage, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen. The film’s music is composed by John Ottman (X2, The Usual Suspects, The Fantastic Four) who also serves as the film’s editor. Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as two songs from the film. Click here for the full album details. Also opening wide is the romantic comedy Blended directed by Frank Coraci and starring Adam Sandler, Drew Barrymore, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Kevin Nealon, Terry Crews, Joel McHale, Bella Thorne, Emma Fuhrmann, Jessica Lowe and Dan Patrick. The film’s original score is composed by Rupert Gregson-Williams (Click, Bee Movie, Winter’s Tale, Veep). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film by such artists as Terry Crews and Junior Mambazo, Fifth Harmony, The Elected, The Mowgli’s, Ball Park Music and Hot Water. Opening in limited release is the indie thriller Cold in July directed by Jim Mickle and starring stars Michael C. Hall, Sam Shepard, Don Johnson and Vinessa Shaw. The film’s original music is composed by Jeff Grace (Night Moves, Meek’s Cutoff) who previously scored the director’s features Stake Land and We Are What We Are. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as songs by White Lions, Dynatron and Kasey Lansdale. Also opening in select cities is the romantic drama Words and Pictures directed by Fred Schepisi and starring Clive Owen, Juliette Binoche, Keegan Connor Tracy, Amy Brenneman, Bruce Davison, Valerie Tian, Navid Negahban and Christian Scheider. Paul Grabowsky who previously worked with the director on such films as Last Orders, It Runs in the Family and Empire Falls has composed the film’s original music. No word yet on a soundtrack album. Words and Pictures premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and was picked up by Roadside Attractions for domestic distribution. To learn more about the film, visit the official movie website.
Also opening in limited release is the comedy drama The Angriest Man in Brooklyn directed by Phil Alden Robinson and starring Robin Williams, Mila Kunis, Peter Dinklage, Melissa Leo, James Earl Jones and Hamish Linklater. Mateo Messina (Juno, Butter, Growing Up Fisher) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced. The movie follows a man who is told by his doctor that he only has 90 minutes to live and races through Brooklyn in an attempt to right all of the wrongs in his life. The movie is being released by Lionsgate and is now also available on VOD.
Another limited release this weekend is the documentary Gore Vidal: The United States of Amnesia directed by Nicholas D. Wrathall about the controversial author, screenwriter and essayist who passed away in 2012. The film’s original music is composed by Ian Honeyman. Madified Publishing has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music earlier this week. Also opening in limited release is the romantic caper comedy The Love Punch written and directed by Joel Hopkins and starring Emma Thompson, Pierce Brosnan, Timothy Spall, Celia Imrie, Louise Bourgoin and Laurent Lafitteas. The film’s original music is composed by Jean-Michel Bernard (Be Kind Rewind, The Science of Sleep). Metropolis Movie Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this spring when the film opened overseas.
