Two new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the horror reboot Evil Dead directed by Fede Alvarez and starring Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas and Elizabeth Blackmore. The film’s music is written by Spanish composer Roque Banos (The Machinist, Sexy Beast). La-La Land Records will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score digitally on April 9. A physical release featuring more than 25 minutes of additional music is set to be released on May 7. The full album details will be posted on this website within the next couple of days. Also opening wide is the Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park 3D based on the novel by Michael Crichton and starring Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, Samuel L. Jackson and Richard Attenborough. The movie’s music is composed and conducted by John Williams. Geffen Records has released a 20th Anniversary soundtrack edition featuring the content of the original album, as well as four previously unreleased tracks. Opening in limited release is the thriller Trance directed by Danny Boyle and starring James McAvoy, Vincent Cassel and Rosario Dawson. Rick Smith who is best known as a member of the electronic music group Underworld and has previously worked with the director on such projects as Sunshine and last year’s Olympics opening ceremony has composed the film’s score. A soundtrack album featuring Smith’s music, as well as tracks by Art & Dotty Todd. Kirsty McGee, UNKLE, M People and Moby has been released earlier this week. Also opening in limited release is the thriller The Company You Keep directed by Robert Redford and starring Shia LaBeouf, Nick Nolte, Sam Elliott, Brendan Gleeson, Terrence Howard, Anna Kendrick, Brit Marling, Nick Nolte, Julie Christie, Richard Jenkins, Jacqueline Evancho, Susan Sarandon, Stephen Root and Stanley Tucci. Cliff Martinez (Traffic, Drive, Contagion) has composed the film’s original score. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score digitally earlier this week. Also opening in select cities is the dark comedy The Brass Teapot directed by Ramaa Mosley and starring Juno Temple, Michael Angarano, Alexis Bledel, Billy Magnussen, Alia Shawkat, Bobby Moynihan, Stephen Park and Debra Monk. The film’s music is composed by Andrew Hewitt (Submarine). No soundtrack album has been announced yet. The movie about a young broke couple who steals a brass teapot that produces cash whenever someone feels pain premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and has been picked up by Magnolia Pictures for domestic distribution. Opening in one theater in New York before expanding to other cities in the next couple of weeks is the romantic thriller Upstream Color written, directed and produced by Shane Carruth (Primer) and starring himself, Amy Seimetz, Andrew Sensenig and Thiago Martin. Carruth has also composed the film’s original music. ERPB has released a soundtrack album featuring the movie’s score. Another limited release this week is the indie thriller Simon Killer written and directed by Antonio Campos (Afterschool) and starring Brady Corbet, Mati Diop, Michael Abiteboul, Constance Rousseau, Lila Salet and Solo. Daniel Bensi and Saunder Jurriaans (Martha Marcy May Marlene) have composed the film’s score. The movie about a recent college graduate, who, after breaking up with his girlfriend of five years, moves to Paris where he has an affair with a young mysterious prostitute premiered at last year’s Sundance Film Festival and has been picked up by IFC Films for US distribution. Also opening in select theaters is the supernatural horror thriller 6 Souls directed by Mans Marlind & Bjorn Stein and starring Julianne Moore and Jonathan Rhys Meyers. John Frizzell (Alien: Resurrection, The Following) has composed the score for the film, which was originally entitled Shelter. Lakeshore Records has announced soundtrack album a few years ago, but it was never released as the film got pushed back. 6 Souls is being released by the Weinstein Company’s Raduis label and is also available on VOD. Also opening in limited release is the comedy drama The Story of Luke directed by Alonso Mayo and starring Lou Taylor Pucci, Seth Green, Cary Elwes, Kristin Bauer van Straten. The film’s original score is composed by Mateo Messina (Juno, Butter). No word yet on a soundtrack release.
