Three new movies are opening in wide release this week:
Already in theaters since this past Tuesday is the comic boot film reboot The Amazing Spider-Man directed by Marc Webb and starring Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy and Rhys Ifans as The Lizard, as well as Martin Sheen, Sally Field and Denis Leary. The film’s music is composed and conducted by James Horner. Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. Also opening wide is the crime drama Savages directed by Oliver Stone and starring Aaron Johnson, Taylor Kitsch, Blake Lively, Benicio Del Toro, Salma Hayek, Uma Thurman, Emile Hirsch, Demian Bichir, Joel David Moore and John Travolta. Adam Peters has composed the film’s original score. Back Lot Music and Varese Sarabande have released a soundtrack album featuring selections from the score, as well as some of the movie’s songs by artists including Bob Dylan, Peter Tosh, Massive Attack and Thievery Corporation. The third wide release of the film is the 3D concert film Katy Perry: Part of Me directed by Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz, which takes a look at the international superstar’s life both on- and off-stage. While the songs featured in the film are available individually on Perry’s records, no specific soundtrack album has been released for the film. Deborah Lurie who has previously scored last year’s concert documentary Justin Bieber: Never Say Never produced by the directors of Katy Perry, has composed the film’s original score. Opening in limited release is the indie comedy Crazy Eyes directed by Adam Sherman and starring Lukas Haas, Madeline Zima, Jake Busey, Ray Wise and Tania Raymonde. The film’s score is composed by Bobby Johnston. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack including Johnston’s score, as well as the songs featured in the film by such as artists Mr. Airplane Man, Stepfather and Lindsay Heath. Also opening in select cities is the drama The Magic of Belle Isle directed by Rob Reiner and starring Morgan Freeman, Virginia Madsen, Madeline Carroll and Kenan Thompson. The film’s music is composed by Reiner’s regular musical collaborator Marc Shaiman. No soundtrack album has been announced yet. The final limited release of the week is the horror film The Pact directed by Nicholas McCarthy and starring Caity Lotz, Haley Hudson, Kathleen Rose Perkins, Sam Ball, Mark Steger, Dakota Bright, Agnes Bruckner and Casper Van Dien. Ronen Landa has composed the film’s score. Movie Score Media’s Screamworks Records has released a soundtrack album featuring Landa’s music.
