Four new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the the family movie Dolphin Tale directed by Charles Martin Smith and starring Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd, Harry Connick, Jr., Kris Kristofferson and Nathan Gamble. The film’s score is written by Mark Isham. Varese Sarabande will be releasing the soundtrack album including Isham’s music on October 11, 2011. Also opening this weekend is the drama Moneyball directed by Bennett Mikler and starring Brad Pitt, Robin Wright, Jonah Hill, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Chris Pratt. The film’s music is composed by Mychael Danna. A soundtrack album featuring Danna’s score, as well as two songs by Kerris Dorsey and This Will Destroy You has been released earlier this week on Madison Gate Records. Also receiving a wide release is the action thriller Abduction directed by John Singleton and starring Taylor Lautner, Lily Colins, Alfred Molina, Jason Isaacs, Maria Bello and Sigourney Weaver. Edward Shearmur has composed the score for the movie. A soundtrack album including one score suite by Shearmur and a number of songs has been released on Interscope Records. The final wide release of the week is the thriller Killer Elite directed by Gary McKendry stars Jason Statham, Robert De Niro, Clive Owen, Yvonne Strahovski, Dominic Purcell and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. The movie’s score is written by Johnny Klimek and Reinhold Heil. Cutting Edge Group’s Pale Blue label has released a soundtrack featuring the composer duo’s score, as well as the song Turkish Acid Bath by the English rock band Kasabian. Opening in limited release is the drama Machine Gun Preacher directed by Marc Forster and starring Gerard Butler, Michelle Monaghan and Michael Shannon. Asche & Spencer have composed the score for the movie and Chris Cornell has written the original song The Keeper for the project.
