Mark Isham revealed in a recent interview on Scorenotes that he just signed on to score the upcoming family drama Dolphin Tale. The movie centers on the friendship between a boy and a dolphin whose tail was lost in a crab trap. The film stars Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd, Harry Connick, Jr., Kris Kristofferson and Nathan Gamble. Dolphin Tale was shot in 3D and is supposed to feature spectacular underwater sequences. The film is directed by actor turned director Charles Martin Smith, who previously worked with Mychael Danna on his last two theatrical features (The Snow Walker, Stone of Destiny). Among the movie’s producers are Broderick Johnson and Andrew A. Kosove, who produced one of Isham’s last family features Racing Stripes in 2005. Warner Bros has scheduled a September 16, 2011 release date for the film.
Isham has a number of other films coming out this year. As reported last year, the composer scored Gavin O’Connor’s Warrior starring Nick Nolte and Tom Hardy, which is currently scheduled to come out on September 9. Still without a release date is the Joel Silver-produced thriller The Factory starring John Cusack and Jennifer Carpenter. Robert Redford’s historical drama The Conspirator starring James McAvoy, Alexis Bledel, Justin Long, Robin Wright, Evan Rachel Wood, Kevin Kline and Tom Wilkinson will get a limited release on April 15. Isham announced in the interview that he is planning to release the score for the film on his own label. For updates on the movie and to watch the trailer, visit the official movie webpage.
