Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the superhero movie The Marvels co-written and directed by Nia DaCosta and starring Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, Teyonah Parris, Samuel L. Jackson,  Gary Lewis, Zawe Ashton, Seo-Jun Park, Mohan Kapur, Zenobia Shroff and Saagar Shaikh. The film’s original music is composed by Laura Karpman (Ms. Marvel, What If..?, American Fiction, Lovecraft CountryUndergroundSet It Up). Hollywood Records & Marvel Music have released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score this past Wednesday. Also opening wide is the movie musical Journey to Bethlehem directed by Adam Anders and starring Fiona Palomo, Milo Manheim, Antonio Banderas, Lecrae, Joel Smallbone, MŌRIAH and Stephanie Gil. Adam Anders has also written the film’s original music with Nikki Anders and Peer Astrom. Capitol Christian Music Group has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the movie last week. Opening in around 900 theaters is the horror comedy It’s a Wonderful Knife directed by Tyler MacIntyre, written by Michael Kennedy and starring Jane Widdop, Jess McLeod, Joel McHale, Justin Long, William B. Davis, Katharine Isabelle. The film’s original music is composed by Russ Howard III (Tragedy Girls, Hobo with a Shotgun, The Cleanse). No soundtrack album has been announced. The movie, which follows a young woman who finds herself in a nightmare parallel universe after making a wish to have never been born, is being released by RLJE Films and will debut on Shudder later this year.

Opening in select theaters today before expanding nationwide on November 22 is the comedy Dream Scenario written and directed by Kristoffer Borgli and starring Nicolas Cage, Julianne Nicholson, Dylan Gelula, Michael Cera, Tim Meadows and Dylan Baker. Owen Pallett (Her, Life, On the Count of Three, The Box, Alice/DarlingSpaceship Earth) has composed the film’s original music. Opening in select theaters today before coming out on VOD on Tuesday, November 7, is the crime thriller Your Lucky Day  written and directed by Dan Brown and starring Angus Cloud, Elliot Knight, Mousa Hussein Kraish, Jessica Garza, Jason O’Mara, Sterling Beaumon, Spencer Garrett, Jason Wiles and Sebastian Sozzi. The film’s original music is composed by Matt Hutchinson (TuscaloosaEarth to Ned). The composer has released a soundtrack album featuring his score today. Opening in select theaters today before premiering on Netflix on November 20 is the documentary Stamped from the Beginning directed by Roger Ross Williams inspired by Ibram X. Kendi’s book of the same title about the history of racist ideas in America. No word on a soundtrack release. Record producers and songwriters Nate Wonder & Roman GianArthur (Antebellum) have composed the film’s original music.  No word on a soundtrack release. Opening in select theaters and on VOD today is the crime thriller The Dirty South written and directed by Matthew Yerby and starring Dermot Mulroney, Willa Holland and Shane West. The film’s original score is composed by Tyler Forrest who also co-wrote most of the project’s original songs. Compound Interest has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the movie by Forrest, Brantley Gilbert & Jelly Roll, Jessta James, Dorothy, Harrison Steele & others today.
