Opening in theaters nationwide today is the Chinese action adventure Vanguard co-written and directed by Stanley Tong and starring Jackie Chan, Yang Yang, Miya Muqi, Lun Ai, Ruohan Xu and Zhengting Zhu. The film’s original music is composed by Nathan Wang (She’s All ThatThe Game Plan, Playing with Fire, You AgainChinese Zodiac). No word on a soundtrack release. The movie, which centers on a covert security company that is the last hope of survival for an accountant after he is targeted by the world’s deadliest mercenary organization, opened in Chinese theaters earlier this year and is being distributed in the U.S. by Gravitas Ventures.

Also opening in theaters nationwide is the drama The Last Vermeer directed by Dan Friedkin and starring Guy Pearce, Claes Bang, Vicky Krieps, August Diehl, Roland Møller, Olivia Grant, Adrian Scarborough and Andrew Havill. Johan Söderqvist (Let the Right One In, Kon-Tiki, The Bridge,  Things We Lost in the Fire, After the Wedding) has composed the film’s original music. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Opening in select theaters today before coming out on VOD next Tuesday, November 24 is the comedy Buddy Games co-written and directed by Josh Duhamel and starring Dan Bakkedahl, Kevin Dillon, Duhamel himself, Olivia Munn, James Roday, Dax Shepard and Nick Swardson. The film’s original music is composed by Alex Wurman (March of the Penguins, Talladega Nights, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Hollywood Homicide, The Newsroom) . Michael Brook (BrooklynInto the WildThe Fighter, Stronger, An Inconvenient Truth, The Perks of Being a Wallflower) has composed the film’s original music. Also opening in select theaters and on VOD today is the action thriller Jiu Jitsu co-written and directed by Dimitri Logothetis and starring Alain Moussi, Frank Grillo, Rick Yune, Marie Avgeropoulos, Juju Chan, Tony Jaa and Nicolas Cage. The film’s original music is composed by Adam Dorn (aka Mocean Worker) (Kickboxer: Retaliation & Vengeance, Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind). No soundtrack album has been released. The movie, which revolves around an ancient order of expert Jiu Jitsu fighters as they face their ultimate match in a deadly battle for Earth, is being released by The Avenue Entertainment.

Another movie opening in select theaters today before coming out on VOD next Tuesday, November 24 is the thriller Girl written and directed by Chad Faust and stars Bella Thorne, Mickey Rourke, Faust himself, Glen Gould, Lanette Ware, and Elizabeth Saunders. Dillon Baldassero (Black CopAmerican HangmanMary Goes Round) has composed the film’s original music. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score was released today and a separate soundtrack EP featuring three songs is also now available. Opening in select U.S. theaters today is the Canadian comedy drama The Twentieth Century written and directed by Matthew Rankin and starring Dan Beirne, Catherine St-Laurent, Sean Cullen, Brent Skagford, Louis Negin and Trevor Anderson. The film’s original music is composed by Peter Venne & Christophe Lamarche-Ledoux. Studio Viking has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score last year when the movie opened in Canadian theaters. Opening in select theaters today before premiering on Amazon Prime on December 4 is the drama Sound of Metal directed by and starring Riz Ahmed, Olivia Cooke, Paul Raci, Mathieu Amalric and Lauren Ridloff. The film’s original music is composed by Nicolas Becker (A Prayer Before Dawn, Memory House) and Abraham Marder. No soundtrack album has been announced yet. The movie, which centers on a metal drummer who begins to lose his hearing, premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and is being distributed by Amazon Studios.

Already playing in select theaters since this past Wednesday before premiering on Netflix on November 25 is the family adventure The Christmas Chronicles 2 written and directed by Chris Columbus and starring Kurt Russell, Goldie Hawn, Darby Camp, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Tyrese Gibson, Jahzir Bruno, Julian Dennison and Judah Lewis.
