Alexandre Desplat revealed at a masterclass at the Festival Rendez-vous 2019 in Rome last week that he is set to score the upcoming drama Little Women. The film is written and directed by Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird) and stars Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, Meryl Streep, Timothée Chalamet, Laura Dern, Bob Odenkirk and Chris Cooper. The movie is based on the 1868 novel of the same name by Louisa May Alcott and tells the story of the March sisters as they come of age in America in the aftermath of the Civil War. Denise Di Novi (Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood), Amy Pascal (The Post, Spider-Man: Homecoming), Robin Swicord (Wakefield) and Arnon Milchan (Birdman, 12 Years a Slave) are producing the project. Desplat (The Shape of Water, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The King’s Speech, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) also revealed that will be composing the music for the upcoming drama Adults in the Room written and directed by Costa-Gavras (Z, Capital) based on the book of former fiance minister Yanis Varoufakis about the fatal first half of 2015, that granted Greece another bailout program. As previously reported, the composer also has Illumination’s animated sequel The Secret Life of Pets 2 and Roman Polanski’s J’accuse coming up.
