Gary Lionelli is scoring HBO’s upcoming untitled Ben Bradlee documentary. The film is directed by John Maggio and centers on the legendary Washington Post executive editor who became a national figure during the presidency of Richard Nixon, when he challenged the federal government over the right to publish the Pentagon Papers. Peter Kunhardt (Becoming Warren Buffett) is producing the project with Richard Cohen. The composer previously scored Maggio’s docu-series The Italian Americans. The documentary will premiere this fall on HBO.

Lionelli who recently received his first Primetime Emmy Award nomination for O.J.: Made in America also has the docu-series Chasing the Moon coming up. The 4-parter is directed by Robert Stone and tracks the space race from its earliest beginnings to the first lunar landing in 1969 and beyond. The series executive produced by Mark Samels features interviews with astronauts including Buzz Aldrin, Frank Borman and Bill Anders. Chasing the Moon will premiere in 2019 as part of PBS’ American Experience series.

The composer’s other upcoming projects include the feature comedy Poor Greg Drowning.

But I was blown away by Gary Lionelli’s fantastic score.
