Only one movie is being released nationwide this weekend:

riddickOpening in over 3000 theaters is the sci-fi action film Riddick written and directed by David Twohy and starring Vin Diesel, Karl Urban, Jodi Molla, Matt Nable, Katee Sackhoff, Dave Bautista, Bokeem Woodbine, Raoul Trujillo and Nolan Gerard Funk. The film’s music is composed by Graeme Revell (Pineapple Express, From Dusk Till Dawn, Sin City) who has previoulsy scored the other films in the Riddick trilogy, Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick. A soundtrack album was originally announced to be released on Back Lot Music, but has since been canceled. adoreOpening in limited release is the indie drama Adore directed by Anne Fontaine and starring Naomi Watts, Robin Wright, Xavier Samuel, James Frechevile and Ben Mendelsohn. The film’s original score is composed and conducted by Christopher Gordon (Master and Commander, Daybreakers). Antony Partos (Animal Kingdom) has provided additional music. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the music of both composers digitally earlier this week. A CD release is set for September 24. salingerAlso opening in select cities is the documentary Salinger directed by Shane Salerno about the life of author JD Salinger (Catcher in the Rye) who died at age 91 in 2010. Lorne Balfe (Megamind, Restless, The Bible) has composed the film’s original music. Decca Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. winnie-mandelaAlso opening in limited release is the biographical drama Winnie Mandela directed by Darrell Roodt and starring Jennifer Hudson and Terrence Howard. The film’s original score is composed and conducted by Laurent Eyquem (Copperhead). RCA Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as the end credits song Bleed for Love performed by Hudson, written by Diane Warren and orchestrated, arranged and co-produced by Eyquem. touchy-feelyAnother limited release this week is the indie drama Touchy Feely directed by Lynn Shelton and starring Rosemarie DeWitt, Ellen Page, Allison Janney, Josh Pais, Scoot McNairy, Ron Livingston and Tomo Nakayama. The film’s original score is composed by Vinny Smith who has previously scored Shelton’s Humpday and Your Sister’s Sister. No word on a soundtrack release. Touchy Feely follows a massage therapist who is unable to do her job when stricken with a mysterious and sudden aversion to bodily contact. The film premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and has been picked up by Magnolia Pictures. the-ultimate-lifeAlso opening in select markets is the drama The Ultimate Life directed by Michael Landon, Jr. and stars Drew Waters, Bill Cobbs, David Mann, Ali Hillis and Peter Fonda. Mark McKenzie (DurangoBlizzard) who previously scored the director’s 2007 film The Ultimate Gift has composed the film’s original score. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music digitally earlier this week. A physical release is coming out next Tuesday, September 10. populaireAlso receiving a limited release is the French romantic comedy Populaire directed by Régis Roinsard and starring Romain Duris, Déborah François and Bérénice Bejo. The film’s music is composed by Robert Coudert (aka Rob) and Emmanuel D’Orlando. A soundtrack album featuring the composers’ music, as well as other tracks featured in the film was released in France last November, when the film opened overseas. hell-babyAnother limited release is the horror comedy Hell Baby directed by Robert Ben Garant & Thomas Lennon who also star in the film alongside Rob Corddry, Leslie Bibb, Riki Lindhome, Paul Scheer, Rob Huebel, Keegan Michael Key, Kumail Nanjiani and Michael Ian Black. Michael Ferrell has composed the film’s music. No soundtrack album has been announced. Hell Baby follows an expectant couple who is forced to enlist the help of the Vatican’s elite exorcism team after they move into a haunted fixer-upper in New Orleans. The film premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and was acquired by Millennium Entertainment for domestic distribution.
