Varese Sarabande has announced a soundtrack album for the epic drama Black Gold. The album features the original score from the movie by James Horner and marks the composer’s first new release since 2010’s The Karate Kid. The soundtrack will be released on February 7, 2012 and is available for pre-order on Amazon. Check back on this page for the full album details in a few weeks. As previously reported, the music was recorded at London’s Abbey Road Studios and Horner worked with Quatari singer Fahad Al Kubaisi on the picture’s opening track. Black Gold is directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud and stars Antonio Banderas, Mark Strong, Tahar Rahim, Freida Pinto and Liya Kebede. The movie premiered at the Doha Film Festival in October and has already been released in a couple of countries, including France in the last couple of weeks. The soundtrack release coincides with the release of the film in the UK and Germany among other European countries. No word yet on a domestic release, but it was recently reported that an announcement is expected before the end of the year.
