Will Bates (Immaculate, Dumb Money, The Magicians, Unbelievable, The Better Sister, The Life List, Away, The Path, Bliss, I Origins, The Looming Tower) has recently been scoring the upcoming comedy drama In Memoriam. The film is written and directed by Rob Burnett (The Fundamentals of Caring) and stars Marc Maron, Talia Ryder, Lily Gladstone, Michael McKean and Judy Greer. The movie tells the story of a veteran Hollywood actor, being played by comedian-podcaster Maron, who becomes obsessed with securing a spot in the Oscars’ In Memoriam montage after he receives a terminal cancer diagnosis. Burnett & Maron are also producing the project with David Martin (Breeders, Workaholic), Nicholas Weinstock (Severance, Thelma) and Divya D’Souza (Bob Ross: Happy Accidents, Betrayal & Greed). In Memoriam will premiere this coming June at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival.
Bates’ other recent projects include Daniel Roher’s Tuner, which premiered at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival and will be released in theaters on May 22 by Black Bear Pictures, as well as Alex Gibney’s documentary Knife: The Attempted Murder of Salman Rushdie, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is currently awaiting a release date. He is also expected to return to score the third season of AMC’s Mayfair Witches.
