Laura Karpman has won her first Primetime Emmy Award in the Outstanding Music Composition for a Documentary Series or Special (Original Dramatic Score) category for her score for the episode Tools & Tactics from the Discover docu-series Why We Hate at today’s first part of the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards. She has previously been received Primetime Emmy Award nominations for the TV series Odyssey 5 and Masters of Science Fiction and is also up for an Emmy this year for her main title theme from Why We Hate. Her score from the series has been released by Lakeshore Records.

Soundtrack Album for Discovery’s ‘Why We Hate’ Announced
Decca Records has announced a soundtrack album for the Discovery docu-series Why We Hate. The album features the show’s original music composed by Laura Karpman (Underground, Paris Can Wait, Step, Black Nativity). The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also check out audio samples. Why We Hate is directed by Geeta Gandbhir & Sam Pollard, executive produced by Steven Spielberg, Alex Gibney & Frank Marshall and explores one of humanity’s most primal and destructive emotions – hate. The 6-parter traces the evolutionary basis of hate and uses stories from past and present to reveal the nature of the primal and universal emotion.

Premiering on Tuesday, October 15, is the USA original series Treadstone developed by Tim Kring based on the Bourne movies and starring Jeremy Irvine, Michelle Forbes, Patrick Fugit, Michael Gaston, Shruti Haasan, Hyo Joo Han, Tess Haubrich and Tracy Ifeachor. Jeff Russo (Fargo, Star Trek: Discovery, The Night Of, Legion) and Jordan Gagne (The Rookie) are composing the show’s original music and Russo has also composed the main title theme. Laura Karpman (Underground, Paris Can Wait, Step, Black Nativity) is scoring the upcoming Discovery docu-series Why We Hate. The show is directed by Geeta Gandbhir & Sam Pollard and investigates the human capacity for hatred and how we can overcome it. The 6-parter traces the evolutionary basis of hate and uses stories from past and present to reveal the nature of the primal and universal emotion. Steven Spielberg, Alex Gibney (Taxi to the Dark Side, Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room) and Frank Marshall (Jurassic World, The Sixth Sense) are executive producing the Amblin Television & Jigsaw production with Stacey Offman, Richard Perello (Super Troopers), Darryl Frank & Justin Falvey (The Americans, The Haunting of Hill House), Yael Melamede, Erica Sashin and Steve Tisch (Forrest Gump, The Equalizer).
