Alex Heffes has signed on to score Stephen Frears’ upcoming currently untitled biopic about Lance Armstrong. The film stars Ben Foster, Lee Pace, Dustin Hoffman, Chris O’Dowd, Guillaume Canet and Jesse Plemons are co-starring. The movie is based on the book Seven Deadly Sins: My Pursuit of Lance Armstrong by David Walsh and chronicles the rise and fall of the pro-cyclist through the 90s and early 2000s. John Hodge (The Beach, Trainspotting) has written the screenplay. Tim Bevan & Eric Fellner (Atonement, Les Miserables, Frost/Nixon) are producing the Working Title and Studiocanal production with Tracey Seaward (Philomena) and Kate Solomon (United 93).

‘Philomena’ Soundtrack Details
Decca Records will release a soundtrack album for Stephen Frears’ upcoming comedy drama Philomena. The album features the film’s original score composed by Alexandre Desplat (The King’s Speech, Argo, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) who has previously collaborated with the director on such films as The Queen, Tamara Drewe and Cheri. Philomena starring Judi Dench and Steve Coogan tells the true story of an Irish woman seeking the illegitimate son she was forced to put up for adoption in the U.S. The movie premiered at this year’s Venice and Toronto Film Festival and was picked up by the Weinstein Company for a theatrical release in the U.S. on November 22, 2013.
Alexandre Desplat to Score Stephen Frears’ ‘Philomena’
Alexandre Desplat is reteaming with director Stephen Frears on the upcoming tragic comedy Philomena. The film starring Judi Dench and Steve Coogan is based on the book The Lost Child of Philomena Lee: A Mother, Her Son and a 50 Year Search by BBC journalist Martin Sixsmith and tells the true story of an Irish woman seeking the illegitimate son she was forced to put up for adoption in the U.S. Coogan co-wrote the script with Jeff Pope and is also producing the BBC Films, Pathe and British Film Institute production with Gabrielle Tana (The Duchess, Coriolanus) and Tracey Seaward (The Queen, Dirty Pretty Things). Desplat has previously collaborated with Frears on the Academy Award-nominated drama The Queen, as well as Cheri and Tamara Drewe.
George Fenton Scoring Stephen Frears’ ‘Muhammad Ali’s Greatest Fight’
George Fenton is scoring the upcoming HBO original movie Muhammad Ali’s Greatest Fight. The film is directed by Stephen Frears and stars Christopher Plummer, Frank Langella, Benjamin Walker, Danny Glover, Barry Levinson, Pablo Schreiber, Ed Begley Jr., Bob Balaban and Kathleen Chalfant. The movie chronicles Ali’s battle with the Supreme Court over his Muslim beliefs as a conscientious objector during the Vietnam War. Instead of casting an actor to play the boxing legend, the film will utilize actual footage of Ali. The screenplay is written by Shawn Slovo (Captain Corelli’s Mandolin) and Frank Doelger (Game of Thrones), Tracey Scoffield (Dirty Pretty Things) and Jonathan Cameron are executive producing the HBO Films production.
James Seymour Brett to Score Stephen Frears’ ‘Lay the Favorite’
James Seymour Brett is currently scoring the comedy Lay the Favorite. The film is directed by Stephen Frears and stars Rebecca Hall, Bruce Willis, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Joshua Jackson, Laura Prepon and Vince Vaughn. Recording sessions for the music are scheduled to take place in early January. The movie follows a young woman as she goes from in-home stripper in Tallahassee to gambler’s assistant in Las Vegas, working for one of the most successful sports gamblers in the business. D.V. DeVincentis (High Fidelity) has written the screenplay based on Beth Raymor’s memoir. DeVincentis is also producing the independent film with Anthony Bregman (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), Randall Emmett & George Furla (16 Blocks) and Paul Trijbits (Jane Eyre).
