Alexandre Desplat (The Shape of Water, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The King’s Speech, The Queen, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Godzilla) is attached to score the upcoming biographical drama LEE. The film will be directed by Ellen Kuras (The Betrayal) and star Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard, Jude Law, Andrea Riseborough and Josh O’Connor. The movie centers on the wartime experiences of Lee Miller who traded a glamorous career as a Vogue cover model for a dangerous career as a WWII photographer who chronicled the fighting on the allied front lines and exposed the atrocities of Hitler’s Nazi Germany.

Nathan Johnson to Score Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Nightmare Alley’
Variety is reporting that Nathan Johnson (Knives Out, Looper, Brick, Don Jon) has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming psychological thriller Nightmare Alley. He is replacing Alexandre Desplat who was previously scoring the movie. The film is directed by Guillermo del Toro and stars Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara, Willem Dafoe, Richard Jenkins, Toni Collette, Ron Perlman and David Strathairn. The movie is based on the 1946 novel of the same title by William Lindsay Gresham and centers on an ambitious young carny with a talent for manipulating people with a few well-chosen words as he hooks up with a female psychiatrist who is even more dangerous than he is.

Alexandre Desplat Scoring Guillaume Canet’s ‘Lui’
Alexandre Desplat (The Shape of Water, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The King’s Speech, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Godzilla) has composed the original music for the upcoming French drama Lui. The film is written and directed by Guillaume Canet (Tell No One, Little White Lies) and stars Canet himself, alongside Mathieu Kassovitz, Laetitia Casta, Virginie Efira and Nathalie Baye. The movie centers on a composer at a crossroads who isolates himself at a house in Brittany, where he receives visits from many of the important people in his life, including his wife, his parents, his best friend and his mistress. Alain Attal (My King, Populaire) is producing the project for Trésor Films.
Soundtrack Album for Netflix’s ‘Tales of Arcadia’ Saga to Be Released
Back Lot Music will release the first-ever soundtrack album for DreamWorks Animation’s Tales of Arcadia saga. The album includes music from all parts of the trilogy: Trollhunters featuring selections of the score by Tim Davies (Maya and the Three) and the Trollhunters Theme written by Alexandre Desplat (The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Shape of Water); 3Below featuring the theme by The Crystal Method (Bones, London) and selections of the score composed by Jeff Danna (Onward, The Good Dinosaur, The Addams Family) and Wizards featuring theme and score by Danna & John Fee. Also included are selections of Danna’s score from the new movie Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans and the end credits music and two additional tracks by The Crystal Method. The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, July 21 and will be available to stream/download on all major digital music platforms, including Amazon.

The film is written and directed by Rebecca Miller (Maggie’s Plan) and will star Anne Hathaway, Tahar Rahim, Marisa Tomei, Joanna Kulig and Matthew Broderick. The movie is set in New York and tells the multigenerational story of a composer suffering from writer’s block who rediscovers his passion after a one-night stand, a couple of gifted teenagers who fight to prove to the parents that their love is something that can last forever, and a woman for whom love arrives in the most unexpected places.

Alexandre Desplat Scoring Martin Bourboulon’s ‘Eiffel’
Alexandre Desplat has recently been scoring the upcoming French romantic period drama Eiffel. The film is directed by Martin Bourboulon (Daddy or Mommy, Divorce French Style) and stars Emma Mackey and Romain Duris. The movie follows celebrated engineer Gustave Eiffel who is under pressure to design something for the 1889 Paris World Fair as spectacular as his recent collaboration with Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi on the Statue of Liberty, when he crosses paths with a mysterious woman from his past who inspires him to change the Paris skyline forever.
‘The Midnight Sky’ Soundtrack Album Details
ABKCO Records will release the official soundtrack album for the Netflix original film The Midnight Sky. The album features the movie’s original music composed by Academy Award winner Alexandre Desplat (The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Shape of Water, The Queen, The King’s Speech, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Godzilla). The soundtrack will be released on December 23 and is now available for pre-order here. (UPDATE 4/8/21: A CD version will be coming out on May 14, 2021 and is available for pre-order on Amazon). Two tracks (The Midnight Sky & Aether Spaceship) are already available to stream/download now and can be checked out after the jump. The Midnight Sky is directed by George Clooney who also stars in the film, alongside Felicity Jones, David Oyelowo, Kyle Chandler, Demián Bichir and Tiffany Boone. The post-apocalyptic drama is based on Lily Brooks-Dalton’s novel Good Morning, Midnight and follows a lonely scientist in the Arctic, as he races to stop a woman and her fellow astronauts from returning home to Earth, where a mysterious global catastrophe has taken place.
