Sony Classical has released the traditional folk and gospel song I Am a Poor Wayfaring Stranger as featured in Sam Mendes’ World War I drama 1917. The track is performed by actor Jos Slovick and was arranged by Craig Leon. Three versions of the song are now available to stream and download as a digital single on Amazon. The label has previously released the official soundtrack album for the movie featuring Thomas Newman’s Academy Award-nominated score. 1917 starring George MacKay, Dean-Charles Chapman, Mark Strong, Andrew Scott, Richard Madden, Claire Duburcq, Colin Firth and Benedict Cumberbatch follows two young British soldiers who must cross enemy territory and deliver a message that will stop a deadly attack on hundreds of soldiers.

Two new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this weekend:
Already playing in theaters since Wednesday is the new film adaptation of Little Women written and directed by Greta Gerwig and starring Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh, Emma Watson, Eliza Scanlen, Timothée Chalamet, Chris Cooper, Laura Dern and Meryl Streep. The film’s original music is composed by Alexandre Desplat (The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Shape of Water, The King’s Speech, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows). The soundtrack will be released on December 20, 2019 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. 1917 is directed by Sam Mendes and stars George MacKay, Dean-Charles Champman, Mark Strong, Andrew Scott, Richard Madden, Claire Duburcq, Colin Firth and Benedict Cumberbatch. The movie takes place at the height of the First World War and follows two young British soldiers, Schofield who must cross enemy territory and deliver a message that will stop a deadly attack on hundreds of soldiers.
Thomas Newman to Score Sam Mendes’ ‘1917’
Thomas Newman is set to reteam with director Sam Mendes on the upcoming World War I drama 1917. George MacKay and Dean-Charles Chapman have been cast in the film. No plot details have been announced yet. Mendes also wrote the screenplay with Krysty Wilson-Cairns and is also producing the Amblin Partners production with Pippa Harris (Penny Dreadful, Call the Midwife), Jayne-Ann Tenggren and Callum McDougall (Into the Woods). Newman has previously scored most of Mendes’ previous features, including American Beauty, Road to Perdition, Jarhead, Revolutionary Road, Skyfall and Spectre.
