Tyler to score Skyline

According to the Gorfaine/Schwartz agency, Brian Tyler has joined the horror thriller Skyline. The project reunites Tyler with directors Colin and Greg Strause who previously worked together on AVPR: Aliens vs Predator – Requiem. The movie is starring Donald Faison and Eric Balfour and is being shot right now. Apart from composing duties, Tyler will also serve as an executive producer and sound supervisor on the movie.

Also coming up for Tyler is the Sly Stallone-directed action movie The Expendables, Red Dawn and Battle: Los Angeles. He also has the George Gallo-directed movies Columbus Circle (which he’s also producing), as well as Middle Men coming up. The latter recently premiered at the Santa Barbara Film Festival and was picked up by Paramount Pictures for release later this year.

Marco Beltrami and Buck Sanders, who have been nominated for an Academy Award for their score for The Hurt Locker have recently been doing the press round to promote the score before the Oscars on March 7.

Henri IV soundtrack release

Hans Zimmer’s and Henry Jackman’s score to the German historical movie Henri IV will be released on Sony Classical on March 5. At this time, the CD will only be available as an import from Germany.

Valentine’s Day scoring sessions footage

While the score to the hit romantic comedy Valentine’s Day hasn’t been released commercially, John Debney recently put up a video from the recording sessions of the Garry Marshall directed movie on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ETZAqxqz9M

Debney is currently finishing up work on the score for the highly anticipated Iron Man 2, which was recently recorded in London. The movie will come out in May and a soundtrack release can be expected around the same time.

John Ottman to score The Losers

John Ottman has been hired to score the upcoming graphic novel adaptation The Losers directed by Sylvain White (Stomp The Yard). Leading the diverse cast are Zoe Saldana, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chris Evans, Columbus Short, Idris Elba and Oscar Jaenada. After several release date changes, the movie is scheduled to be released on April 23 in the US.

Beltrami to score The Sunset Limited

Marco Beltrami recently finished working on the score for the HBO movie The Sunset Limited. The movie is based on the Cormac McCarthy (No Country For Old Men, The Road) novel and stars Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel L. Jackson. The project reunites director Tommy Lee Jones with Beltrami who previously collaborated on The Three Burials of Melquiadas Estrada and will premiere on HBO later this year. Beltrami also has the Sci-Fi thriller Repo Men coming up next month and finished the score to the Wes Craven directed horror movie My Soul To Take a while ago. He is currently working on the Guillermo del Toro produced horror thriller Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, which should be released later this year.

Michael Giacchino wins BAFTA Award

Last Sunday, Michael Giacchino won his first British Academy of Film and Television Award for his original music for Pixar’s animated feature Up. Earlier this year, he already won a Grammy, as well as a Golden Globe Award for the score and he is the frontrunner to go home with an Academy Award as well when winners are announced on March 7.
