The details of the soundtrack album for Bryan Singer’s fantasy adventure Jack the Giant Slayer have been revealed. The album features the film’s music composed by John Ottman (X2, Superman Returns, The Usual Suspects, The Fantastic Four) who is also the film’s editor and associate producer. The soundtrack will be released digitally on February 26, 2013 by WaterTower Music and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips can be checked out after the jump. iZLER to Score ‘Growing Up and Other Lies’

iZLER has been tapped to score the upcoming indie drama Growing Up and Other Lies. The film is directed by Danny Jacobs and Darren Grodsky and stars Adam Brody, Wyatt Cenac, Amber Tamblyn, Josh Lawson, Lauren Miller and Jacobs himself. The movie follows a 30-year-old man who recruits his three oldest friends to help him retrace their greatest adventure: walking the entire, 260-block length of the island of Manhattan in one day. Nicole Lederman, Katie Mustard and Jason Weiss are producing the project. iZLER has previously scored Jacobs’ and 2008 feature Humboldt County. Two new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the crime comedy Identity Thief directed by Seth Gordon and starring Jason Bateman, Melissa McCarthy, Jon Favreau, Amanda Peet, Tip “T.I.” Harris, Genesis Rodriguez, Morris Chestnut, John Cho, Robert Patrick and Eric Stonestreet. The film’s music is composed by Christopher Lennertz (Horrible Bosses, NBC’s Revolution). A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as a cover of James Brown’s The Payback performed by Amanda Brown and a song by Ty Taylor has been released digitally earlier this week on Back Lot Music. Also opening wide is the psychological thriller Side Effects directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring Rooney Mara, Jude Law, Channing Tatum and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Thomas Newman has composed his third score for the director following Erin Brockovich and The Good German. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music is now available digitally and will be released in March on CD by Varese Sarabande. WaterTower Music will release the official soundtrack album for Bryan Singer’s upcoming fantasy adventure Jack the Giant Slayer. The album features the film’s original score composed by John Ottman who has previously worked with the director on such films as The Usual Suspects, Valkyrie and the second X-Men movie. In addition to writing the orchestral score, Ottman also is also the film’s editor and associate producer. The soundtrack is expected to be released on February 26, 2013. Rob Simonsen Scoring ‘Chu and Blossom’

Rob Simonsen revealed in a recent interview with Sound on Sight that he is currently scoring the indie coming of age comedy Chu and Blossom. The film is directed by Gavin Kelly and Charles Chu and stars Chu himself, as well as Ryan O’Nan, Melanie Lynskey, Alan Cumming, Mercedes Ruehl, Caitlin Stasey, Annie Potts, Chris Marquette, Dan Bakkedahl and Richard Kind. The movie centers on a pensive Korean exchange student and a performance artist who are trapped together in a small town. Chu has also written the screenplay with O’Nan who is also producing the project with Jason Michael Berman, Caroline Connor, Thomas B. Fore. William Ross to Conduct Orchestra at 85th Academy Awards

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced today that William Ross will conduct the Oscar orchestra for the 85th Academy Awards later this month. The composer and arranger has previously conducted for the 79th and 83rd Academy Awards in 2007 and 2011. Ross has composed the music for such films as The Tale of Despereaux, Ladder 49, Tuck Everlasting and My Dog Skip. He also arranged music for artists including Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli and Michael Buble. Oscars for outstanding film achievements of 2012 hosted by Seth MacFarlane will be presented on Oscar Sunday, February 24, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center. Varese Sarabande has announced the details of the soundtrack album for Steven Soderbergh’s psychological thriller Side Effects. The album features the film’s score composed by Thomas Newman who previously collaborated with the director on Erin Brockovich and The Good German. Newman’s music for the movie has been singled out by numerous major film critics including Roger Ebert over the past few weeks. David Hirschfelder Scoring ‘The Railway Man’

David Hirschfelder is composing the score for the upcoming drama The Railway Man. The movie is directed by Jonathan Teplitzy (Burning Man) and stars Colin Firth as Eric Lomax, a British officer who was captured and tortured by the Japanese in World War II and is persuaded by his wife to seek out and confront one of his captors a few decades later. Nicole Kidman, Jeremy Irvine, Stellan Skarsgard and Hiroyuki Sanada are co-starring. Frank Cottrell Boyce (Millions, Hilary & Jackie) and Andy Paterson (producer of Girl with a Pearl Earring) have written the screenplay based on Lomax’s autobiography. ‘Song for Marion’ Soundtrack Details

Sony Classical will release a soundtrack album for the comedy drama Song for Marion. The album features the songs featured in the film performed by the movie’s cast. Also included are selections from the original score composed by Laura Rossi. The soundtrack will be released in the UK on February 25, 2013. No word yet on a domestic release. Song for Marion written and directed by Paul Andrew Williams and starring Terence Stamp, Gemma Arterton, Vanessa Redgrave and Christopher Eccleston follows a grumpy pensioner who is reluctantly inspired by his beloved wife Marion to join a highly unconventional local choir. The movie premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and will be released in the UK later this month and is set to come out in the US under the title Unfinished Song on June 21, 2013 by the Weinstein Company. Mariah Carey Performs ‘Almost Home’ for ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’

Disney announced today that Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Mariah Carey has recorded the original song Almost Home for Sam Raimi’s upcoming fantasy adventure Oz the Great and Powerful. The track will be released as a single by Carey’s label, Island Def Jam, on February 19, 2013. David LaChapelle will direct Carey in the music video for Almost Home. Carey has written the song with Simone Porter, Justin Gray, Lindsey Ray, Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel Eriksen. She has previously performed original songs for such films as The Prince of Egypt and Glitter. As previously reported, Danny Elfman has composed the score for Oz the Great and Powerful, which will be released by Intrada and Walt Disney Records next month. Read the rest of this entry »
