Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters this weekend is the comic book movie Deadpool directed by Tim Miller and starring Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Gina Carano, Ed Skrein and Brianna Hildebrand. The film’s original music is composed by Tom Holkenborg aka Junkie XL (Mad Max: Fury Road, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice). Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs by WHAM!, Salt-N-Pepa, DMX & more. Check out our previous article for the full album details. Also opening wide is the comedy sequel Zoolander 2 directed by Ben Stiller and starring himself, Penelope Cruz, Will Ferrell, Owen Wilson, Kristen Wiig and Fred Armisen. Theodore Shapiro (The Devil Wears Prada, Tropic Thunder, Marley & Me, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Trumbo). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score digitally today. A CD version will be released next month. ‘Risen’ Soundtrack Released

Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album for the biblical drama Risen. The album features the film’s original music composed by Roque Banos (In the Heart of the Sea, The Machinist, Evil Dead, Oldboy, Sexy Beast). The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also check out audio clips. Risen is directed by Kevin Reynolds (Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Waterworld) and stars Joseph Fiennes, Tom Felon, Peter Firth and Cliff Curtis. ‘The Shannara Chronicles’ Soundtrack Announced

A soundtrack album will be released for the MTV original series The Shannara Chronicles. The album features selections from the show’s original score composed by Felix Erskine and Lukas Burton (Orphan). The soundtrack will be released digitally on February 26, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The end credits tracks is already available to download here. The Shannara Chronicles is based on Terry Brooks’ best-selling fantasy books and stars Poppy Drayton, Ivana Baquero, Austin Butler,James Remar, Brooke Williams, Daniel MacPherson, Marcus Vanco and John Rhys-Davies. The show developed by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar follows an Elvin princess, a human Eretria and an elf-human hybrid on their quest to save the world from an evil demon. ‘Zoolander 2’ Soundtrack Released

Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album for the comedy sequel Zoolander 2. The album features the film’s original music composed by Theodore Shapiro (The Devil Wears Prada, Tropic Thunder, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Trumbo). The soundtrack is now available digitally on iTunes, where you can also listen to audio samples. A physical version is set to come out on March 11, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Zoolander 2 is directed by Ben Stiller who also stars in the film alongside Penelope Cruz, Will Ferrell, Owen Wilson, Kristen Wiig and Fred Armisen, as well as numerous celebrities who appear in cameo performances. ‘The Young Messiah’ Soundtrack Details

The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award nominee John Debney (The Passion of the Christ, Iron Man 2, Elf, The Jungle Book). Micky Erbe & Maribeth Solomon Scoring IMAX Documentary ‘A Beautiful Planet’

Micky Erbe and Maribeth Solomon are reteaming with director Toni Myers on the upcoming IMAX documentary A Beautiful Planet. The movie, which is narrated by Jennifer Lawrence, is made in cooperation with NASA and features footage of planet Earth captured by the astronauts aboard the Internal Space Station (ISS). The film also centers on the effect humanity had on the planet over time. Myers is also producing the project. ‘Born to Be Blue’ Soundtrack Details

Rhino Records will release a soundtrack album for the biographical drama Born to Be Blue. The album features a number of standards by jazz trumpeter Chet Baker performed by a Toronto-based group of players, led by Canadian jazz musician David Braid, along with Ethan Hawke on vocals on two tracks. Also included are period pieces by Charles Mingus and Odetta. The soundtrack will be released on March 18, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Born to Be Blue is directed by Robert Budreau and stars Ethan Hawke as Chet Baker, Carmen Ejogo, Callum Keith Rennie, Joe Cobden and Charles Officer. Jarvis Cocker to Score Neil Gaiman’s ‘Likely Stories’

Sky Arts announced today that Jarvis Cocker is composing the music for the upcoming television adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Likely Stories. The 4-parter is directed by Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard (Nick Cave’s 20,000 Days on Earth) and stars Tom Hughes, George MacKay, Johnny Vegas, Kenneth Cranham, Rita Tushingham, Monica Dolan, Paul Ritter, Simon Manyonda, Johann Myers and Montserrat Lombard. ‘Saint Amour’ Soundtrack EP Announced

Record Makers has announced a soundtrack release for the French-Belgian comedy Saint Amour. The EP features three tracks from the film’s original music composed by French singer/songwriter and Daft Punk associate Sébastien Tellier. Saint Amour is directed by Benoît Delépine & Gustave de Kervern (Mammuth) and stars Gérard Depardieu and Benoît Poelvoorde as a farmer and his son who bond and find love on an eventful wine tour. Patrick Doyle to Score ‘Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero’

Patrick Doyle has signed on to score the upcoming animated feature Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero. The film is directed by Daniel St. Pierre (Everyone’s Hero, Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return) and tells the true story of Stubby, a stray Boston bull terrier, who forged a lasting bond with the men of the 26th “Yankee” Division at the onset of America’s involvement in World War I. Mike Stokey has written the screenplay with Richard Lanni who also serves as an executive producer. No voice cast has been announced yet. Read the rest of this entry »
