Thomas Newman (American Beauty, 1917, The Shawshank Redemption, Finding Nemo, Road to Perdition, Skyfall, Wall-E, Bridge of Spies) has signed on to score the upcoming Netflix original film The Thursday Murder Club. The movie is co-written and directed by Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Mrs. Doubtfire) and stars Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley, Celia Imrie, David Tennant, Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays,Jonathan Pryce, Richard E. Grant, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Tom Ellis, Paul Freeman, Geoff Bell, Sarah Niles and Ingrid Oliver. The crime comedy is based on the novel series of the same title by Richard Osman and follows a group of friends in a retirement home who gather to solve murders for fun, but find themselves caught in a real case. Remastered Soundtrack Album for Brian De Palma’s ‘Sisters’ Announced

Music Box Records has announced a new soundtrack album for the 1973 psychological horror thriller Sisters co-written and directed by Brian De Palma and starring Margot Kidder, Jennifer Salt, Charles Durning, Bill Finley and Lisle Wilson. The album features the newly remastered original score from the film composed and conducted by Academy Award winner Bernard Herrmann (Vertigo, Citizen Kane, Psycho, North by Northwest, Marnie, Taxi Driver, Obsession). The CD, which also includes liner notes featuring a new interview with editor Paul Hirsch, is limited to 1,000 edition and is now available to order on the label’s official website, where you can also listen to audio samples and check out the full album details. Quincy Jones (1933-2024)

Quincy Jones passed away yesterday at age 91 at his home in Bel Air. The composer, songwriter and record producer wrote numerous scores and songs for film over a six decade spanning-career. His film scoring credits include Richard Brooks’ In Cold Blood, Sidney Lumet’s The Wiz and Steven Spielberg’s The Color Purple, for all of which he received Academy Award nominations, as well as Norman Jewison’s In the Heat of the Night, Sam Peckinpah’s The Getaway and Peter Collinson’s The Italian Job. Premiering tonight is the HBO Latino original series Like Water for Chocolate (Como agua para chocolate) based on Laura Esquivel’s novel of the same title, executive produced by Salma Hayek Pinault and starring Irene Azuela, Azul Guaita, Ana Valeria Becerril, Andrés Baida, Andrea Chaparro, Ángeles Cruz, Ari Brickman, Mauricio García Lozano and Louis David Horné. The show’s original music is composed by Dario Valderrama (La Fortaleza, Nora’s Will, Paradise, Operation Goldenshell) The drama, which is set during the Mexican Revolution and revolves around two souls who are deeply in love, yet unable to be together due to entrenched family customs., will air on HBO Latino and will also be available to stream on Max.
Premiering in the U.S. on Thursday, November 7, is the British TV series Until I Kill You written by Nick Stevens based on Delia Balmer’s book Living with a Serial Killer and starring Anna Maxwell Martin and Shaun Evans. Carly Paradis (The Innocents, Line of Duty, The Rising, Typist Artist Pirate King, Whitstable Pearl, Sick Note, Showtrial, Prime Suspect 1973) has composed the show’s original music. Waxwork Records has announced the world premiere soundtrack release for the 1974 horror classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre co-written and directed by Tobe Hooper and starring Marilyn Burns, Paul A. Partain, Edwin Neal, Jim Siedow and Gunnar Hansen. The album features the film’s original score composed by Hooper and Wayne Bell (Eaten Alive, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation).
