Premiering tonight is the revival of the classic TV series Twin Peaks created by David Lynch & Mark Frost and starring Kyle MacLachlan, Mädchen Amick, Dana Ashbrook, Sherilyn Fenn, Sheryl Lee, Peggy Lipton, James Marshall, Everett McGill and Wendy Robie. The show’s original music is composed by Angelo Badalamenti (Blue Velvet, The Straight Story, Mulholland Drive) who previously scored the original series, as well as the movie version. Making its U.S. debut tonight is the British mini-series Dark Angel developed by Gwyneth Hughes based on David Wilson’s book Mary Ann Cotton: Britain’s First Female Serial Killer and starring Joanne Froggatt, Alun Armstrong, Penny Layden, Laura Morgan, Jonas Armstrong, Sam Hoare, Emma Fielding and John Hollingworth. Alberto Iglesias has signed on to score the upcoming biographical drama Yuli. The movie directed by Iciar Bollain (Even the Rain, Take My Eyes) tells the story of Cuban ballet superstar Carlos Acosta’s rise from the streets of Havana to the heights of classical ballet, becoming the first black principal guest dancer at the Royal Ballet in London. Paul Laverty (I, Daniel Blake, The Wind That Shakes the Barley) wrote the screenplay based on Acosta’s autobiography No Way Home. The project is produced by BBC Films, Potboiler Productions and Spain’s Morena Films.
Universal Pictures announced that Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus will be providing the music for the upcoming movie musical Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!. The film is the sequel to the studios’ 2008 hit feature Mamma Mia! starring Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth. The movie will be written and directed by Ol Parker (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Imagine Me and You) and will feature ABBA songs not featured in the first film, as well as some reprised favorites. Judy Craymer who produced the stage musical version is producing the project with Playtone’s Gary Goetzman (My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Where the Wild Things Are).
Expected to top the weekend box office is the sci-fi horror movie Alien: Covenant directed by Ridley Scott and starring Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz and Jussie Smollett. Roque Banos has been hired to score the upcoming film adaptation of The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. The film is directed by Terry Gilliam (Brazil, The Fisher King, The Brothers Grimm) and stars Adam Driver, Michael Palin, Stellan Skarsgard and Olga Kurylenko. The movie follows a jaded young advertising executive who returns to the Spanish village where he made a film based on Cervantes’ masterpiece years earlier and meets a villager who believes himself to be Don Quixote as he gets swept up in a fantastic extravaganza complete with damsels in distress, knights and giants. Gilliam also co-wrote the screenplay with Tony Grisoni (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Tideland) based on the novel by Miguel de Cervantes y Saavedra.

Big Machine Records will release a new soundtrack album for the CMT original series Nashville. Walt Disney Records will release a score album for Pixar’s latest animated movie Cars 3. The album features the film’s original music composed and conducted by Academy Award-winning composer Randy Newman (Toy Story series, A Bug’s Life, Avalon, The Natural, James and the Giant Peach, The Princess and the Frog) who previously scored the 2006 original Cars movie.
