James Newton Howard is set to reunite with director Dan Gilroy on the upcoming dramatic thriller Inner City. The film is written and directed by Gilriy and will star Denzel Washington as an attorney for a big Los Angeles law firm who discovers some unfavorable things about his late partner and decides to right his wrongs. Jennifer Fox (Michael Clayton, Syriana) is producing the project with Escape Artists’ Todd Black (The Pursuit of Happyness, The Equalizer) and Cross Creek Pictures’ Brian Oliver (Black Swan, Rush, Everest). Sony Classical will release the official soundtrack album for the sci-fi drama The Space Between Us. The album features the film’s original music composed by Andrew Lockington (San Andreas, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, City of Ember). The full details of the soundtrack album for the drama Hidden Figures have been revealed. The album features the songs from the film by the film’s co-composer and producer Pharrell Williams, as well as Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys, Lalah Hathaway, Kim Burrell and Janelle Monáe. The soundtrack will be released on December 9, 2016 by Columbia Records and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A couple of songs, including Surrender, I See a Victory and Runnin’ are already available to download now. Hidden Figures is directed by Theodore Melfi and stars Taraji P. James Newton Howard revealed during a press tour promoting his upcoming concert series that he will be reteaming with director Francis Lawrence on the spy thriller Red Sparrow. The film starring Jennifer Lawrence & Joel Edgerton is based on the Jason Matthews novel of the same name and is set in modern-day Russia in the intelligence bureaucracy. The movie follows a young woman who is drafted against her will to become a “sparrow,” a trained seductress assigned to operate against a first-tour CIA officer who handles the agency’s most sensitive penetration of Russian intelligence. Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road) wrote the screenplay based on an earlier script by Eric Warren Singer (American Hustle). A number of film composer will participate in Gold Derby’s first roundtable discussion event focussing on the music and sound of some of this year’s awards contenders in the respective categories. The Meet the Experts panel will be moderated by Tom O’Neill and will take place tomorrow, November 16 at Landmark Theaters in Los Angeles. Participating composers include Alexandre Desplat (The Grand Budapest Hotel, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, The King’s Speech) who is promoting his work for Illumination Entertainment’s hit animated movie The Secret Life of Pets, Nicholas Britell (The Big Short, Free State of Jones) whose most recent score is for the indie hit drama Moonlight, Benjamin Wallfisch (Lights Out, The Escapist) who co-scored Ted Melfi’s upcoming Hidden Figures with Hans Zimmer & Pharrell Williams and Justin Hurwitz (Whiplash) who scored and wrote the songs for Damien Chazelle’s acclaimed movie musical La La Land. Intrada Records has announced a new soundtrack album for Warren Beatty’s 1990 action comedy Dick Tracy based on the 1930s comic strip character and starring Beatty, Madonna, Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman and James Caan. The album features the film’s original score composed by Danny Elfman (Spider-Man, Alice in Wonderland, Batman, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Men in Black), including over 90 minutes of previously unreleased music. Chris Bacon has been hired to score Jonathan Levine’s untitled Mother/Daughter comedy. The film directed by Levine (50/50, Warm Bodies, The Night Before) stars Amy Schumer, Goldie Hawn, Christopher Meloni, Ike Barinholtz, Oscar Jaenada and Wanda Sykes. No plot details have been revealed yet. Katie Dippold (Ghostbusters, The Heat) has written the screenplay with Schumer and Kim Caramele (Inside Amy Schumer).
