Only one movie is opening nationwide this weekend:
Expected to top the other films in release at the box office is the action comedy 21 Jump Street directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller and starring Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, Ice Cube, Brie Larson and Ellie Kemper. The film’s score is composed by Mark Mothersbaugh who previously collaborated with the director’s on their animated feature hit Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Opening in limited release is the Spanish-language comedy Casa de mi Padre directed by Matt Piedmont and starring Will Ferrell, Gael Garcia Bernal, Diego Luna, Genesis Rodriguez, Nick Offerman & Pedro Armendariz, Jr. Andrew Feltenstein & John Nau have written the film’s score. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring selections from the score, as well Christina Aguilera’s title song earlier this week. Also opening in select cities is the comedy Jeff Who Lives at Home directed by Jay and Mark Duplass and starring Jason Segel, Ed Helms, Susan Sarandon and Judy Greer. The film’s score is composed by Michael Andrews (Bridesmaids) who previously worked with the directors on 2010’s Cyrus. No word on a soundtrack release for the movie. The film about a man searching for the meaning of life while on a mundane errand to buy some glue for his mother premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. Another limited release is the drama Detachment directed by Tony Kaye (American History X) and starring Adrien Brody, Christina Hendricks, James Caan, Lucy Lio, Bryan Cranston, Blythe Danner, Marcia Gay Harden and Tim Blake Nelson. The film’s music is written by The Newton Brothers. The movie depicting three weeks in the lives of high school teachers, administrators and students through the eyes of substitute teacher premiered at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival. The final limited release of the week is the thriller Seeking Justice (previously entitled The Hungry Rabbit Jumps) directed by Roger Donaldson and starring Nicolas Cage, January Jones, Jennifer Carpenter and Harold Perrineau. J. Peter Robinson (The Bank Job, Cocktail) who has collaborated with the director several times before has written the score for the film. No soundtrack album is available.
