Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Guaranteed to top the weekend box office is Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter and Gal Gadot. The film’s original music is composed by Hans Zimmer (The Dark Knight, Man of Steel) and Junkie XL (Deadpool, Mad Max: Fury Road, 300: Rise of an Empire). Also opening wide is the romantic comedy sequel My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 directed by Kirk Jones and starring Nia Vardalos, John Corbett, Lainie Kazan, Michael Constantine, Andrea Martin, Ian Gomez, Alex Wolff, Elena Kampouris, John Stamos, Rita Wilson and Joey Faton. Christopher Lennertz (Ride Along, Agent Carter, Horrible Bosses) has composed the film’s original music. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs by The Bangles, Mandisa, Helena Paparizo & more. Opening in limited release is the biographical drama I Saw the Light written and directed by Marc Abraham and starring Tom Hiddleston, Elizabeth Olsen, Cherry Jones, Bradley Whitford, Maddie Hasson, Wrenn Schmidt and David Krumholtz. The film’s original score is composed by Aaron Zigman (The Notebook, Bridge of Teribithia, John Q). Legacy Recordings has released a soundtrack album featuring new interpretations of classic Hank Williams tracks performed by Hiddleston and the Saddle Spring Boys, as well as songs by Eddy Arnold, The Delmore Brothers, Jo Stafford & more. Also opening in limited release is the biographical drama Born to Be Blue directed by Robert Budreau and starring Ethan Hawke, Carmen Ejogo, Callum Keith Rennie, Joe Cobden and Charles Officer. David Braid, Todor Kobakov & Steve London have composed the film’s original music. Rhino Records has released a soundtrack album featuring standards by jazz trumpeter Chet Baker performed by a Toronto-based group of players, led Braid, as well as period pieces by Charles Mingus and Odetta. Also opening in select theaters is the comedy Get a Job directed by Dylan Kidd and starring Miles Teller, Anna Kendrick, Bryan Cranston, Alison Brie, Marcia Gay Harden, Ravi Patel, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Jorge Garcia. The film’s original music is composed by Jonathan Sadoff (Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, The Meddler). No soundtrack album has been announced yet. Get a Job follows two recent college graduates who find themselves lost in a sea of increasingly strange jobs. The comedy is being released in theaters and on VOD by Lionsgate Premiere.
Also opening in limited release is the horror thriller Baskin directed by Can Evrenol and starring Gorkem Kasal, Ergun Kuyucu, Mehmet Cerrahoglu, Sabahattin Yakut, Mehmet Fatih Dokgoz and Muharrem Bayrak. Ulas Pakkan has composed the film’s original music. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening in select cities is the action comedy A Bit of Bad Luck written and directed by John Furhman and starring Cary Elwes, Teri Polo, Agnes Bruckner, Russell Hodgkinson, Marshall Bell and Scott C. Brown. The film’s original music is composed by David Buckley (The Good Wife, The Forbidden Kingdom, Gone, From Paris with Love) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced. A Bit of Bad Luck follows a socialite who puts together a plan to make her husband suffer after she finds out he is planning a weekend getaway with his lover. The comedy is being released by Indican Pictures.
Another limited release this week is the animated feature April and the Extraordinary World directed by Christian Desmares & Franck Ekinci and featuring the voice talent of Marion Cotillard. Valentin Hadjadj has composed the film’s original music. 22D Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening in select theaters is the indie comedy drama Jane Wants a Boyfriend directed by William C. Sullivan and starring Eliza Dushku, Louisa Krause, Amir Arison and Gabriel Ebert. The film’s original music is composed by Nathan Matthew David (Satisfaction, Addicted to Fresno). No word on a soundtrack release. Jane Wants a Boyfriend follows a young woman with Asperger’s tries to find her first boyfriend with a little help from her older sister. The dramedy is being released by FilmBuff.
