Mark Orton is the composer of the upcoming comedy drama My Old Lady. The film marks the directorial debut of Israel Horovitz (screenwriter of Sunshine, Author! Author!) and stars Maggie Smith, Kevin Kline, Kristin Scott Thomas and Dominique Pinon. The movie is based on a play by Horovitz and centers on a man from New York who travels to Paris to liquidate a valuable apartment he has inherited from his estranged father and meets a refined old woman, who turns out to be his father’s lover, living in the apartment with her daughter. Orton relied on violin, cello and accordion to score the drama produced by Rachael Horovitz (Moneyball), Gary Foster (Daredevil, Sleepless in Seattle, The Score), Nitsa Benchetrit and David Barrot. My Old Lady has been picked up by Cohen Media Group for domestic distribution. A release in 2014 is targeted.
Orton is coming off scoring Alexander Payne’s critically acclaimed dramedy Nebraska. The composer whose previous scoring credits include The Good Girl and who is a member of the San Francisco Bay Area based music collective Tin Hat has also scored the upcoming indie drama Drunktown’s Finest. The film is written and directed by Sydney Freeland and stars Jeremiah Bitsui, Carmen Moore, Morningstar Angeline, Kiowa Gordon, Shauna Baker and Elizabeth Francis. The movie follows three young Native Americans – a rebellious father-to-be, a devout Christian woman, and a promiscuous transsexual – as they come of age on an Indian reservation. It was just announced that the drama will be premiering at the Sundance Film Festival next month. Orton’s other upcoming projects include the dramedy Big Significant Things written and directed by Bryan Reisberg and starring Harry Lloyd and the neo-western Redemption Trail starring Lily Rabe and LisaGay Hamilton.
