Roque Banos has been hired to score the upcoming action drama In the Heart of the Sea. The film is directed by Ron Howard and stars Chris Hemsworth, Benjamin Walker, Cillian Murphy, Brendan Gleeson, Sam Keeley, Ben Whishaw, Charlotte Riley and Tom Holland. The movie is based on a novel by Nathaniel Philbrick and follows a whaling ship that is preyed upon by a sperm whale, stranding its crew at sea for 90 days, thousands of miles from home. Charles Leavitt (Blood Diamond, K-Pax) has adapted the material for the screen. Howard’s producing partner Brian Grazer, Joe Roth (Alice in Wonderland, Snow White and the Huntsman), Paula Weinstein (The Perfect Storm, Blood Diamond) and William Ward are producing the Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow production. Howard has previously collaborated with such composers as James Horner (A Beautiful Mind, Apollo 13, Cocoon), John Williams (Far and Away), Thomas Newman (Cinderella Man) and Randy Newman (Parenthood). His last couple of features, including Da Vinci’s Demons, Angels & Demons, Frost/Nixon and Rush featured music by Hans Zimmer. In the Heart of the Sea is currently shooting and is expected to be released in 2014.
Banos whose previous film scoring credits include such titles as The Machinist, Sexy Beast and this year’s Evil Dead most recently composed the score for Spike Lee’s Oldboy starring Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen, Sharlto Copley and Samuel L. Jackson. As previously reported, Varese Sarabande Records will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. The full album details will be announced within the next couple of days. In the meantime, check out three full tracks from the score below.
Olé! Spanish passport is a must to be a composer nowadays
Did something go wrong with him and Zimmer during Rush?
I meant Ron Howard and Hans Zimmer.
@SDH: certainly not, they are good friends and the Rush soundtrack was simply brilliant and looked like it was a very good time for everybody involved. I think it’s just Hans is a busy guy…
