Robert Duncan (Castle, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Missing, Lie to Me, The Equalizer) has been tapped to score the upcoming MGM+ original anthology series American Hostage. The show is created by Shawn Ryan (The Shield) & Eileen Myers based on the first season of the podcast of the same name and stars Jon Hamm, Giovanni Ribisi, Kristoffer Polaha, William Jackson Harper, Mireille Enos, Jonathan Tucker and Kat Cunning. The 8-part psychological thriller takes place in the 1970s and tells the true story of Fred Heckman, a beloved Indianapolis radio reporter who is thrust into the middle of a life-or-death crisis when hostage-taker Tony Kiritsis demands to be interviewed on his popular radio news program. Ryan, Myers & Hamm are also executive producing the Sony Pictures Television production with Sharon Hoffman, Connie Tavel (Your Friends & Neighbors, Confess, Fletch), Marney Hochman (The Get Down), Shawn Christensen (Abduction, Before I Disappear), Gabriel Mason, Jen Roskind (Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Best Man Down), as well as Adam Arkin (Poker Face, Get Shorty) & Nina Lopez Corrado who also serve as series directors. Duncan has previously collaborated with Ryan on such TV shows The Unit, Last Resort, Terriers, Mad Dogs, The Chicago Code, Timeless, S.W.A.T. & The Night Agent. American Hostage will premiere on September 20, 2026 exclusively on MGM+.
Duncan also continues to score Netflix’s The Night Agent, which will return for a fourth and final season.
