Two new movies open wide this weekend:

The comic book adaptation The Green Hornet is directed by Michel Gondry and stars Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Christoph Waltz and Cameron Diaz. The film’s score is composed by James Newton Howard. While no soundtrack release has been announced, an album is reportedly in the works. In the movie, Britt Reid, heir to his father’s large company, teams up with his late dad’s assistant Kato to become a masked crime fighting team. Also opening today is Ron Howard’s comedy The Dilemma starring Vince Vaughn, Kevin James, Winona Ryder, Channing Tatum, Jennifer Connelly and Queen Latifah. The movie features a score by Hans Zimmer and Lorne Balfe (check out our previous article on the movie). A soundtrack album has been released on Atlantic Records. In limited release, Richard J. Lewis’ comedy drama Barney’s Version is opening this weekend. The film stars Paul Giamatti, Dustin Hoffman and Rosamunde Pike and centers around politically incorrect, fully lived life of the impulsive, irascible and fearlessly blunt Barney Panofsky. The film’s music is composed by Pasquale Catalano. A soundtrack album will be released by Universal Music in Europe, while no announcement has been made for the domestic market. New Films Cinema is releasing Christopher B. Landon’s comedy drama Burning Palms this weekend. The film interlaces five stories set in Los Angeles, where no taboo is left unexplored as each character careens toward a dark and often comic fate. The movie stars Zoe Saldana, Paz Vega, Rosamund Pike, Lake Bell, Shannen Doherty and Nick Stahl and is scored by Matthew Margerson, who had his big feature film debut on last fall’s Skyline. Also opening in limited release is Richard Levine’s comedy drama Every Day about a New York couple in romantic crisis. The film stars Liev Schreiber, Helen Hunt, Carla Gugino, Brian Dennehy and Eddie Izzard. The film’s music is composed by Jeanine Tesori (Nights in Rodante). No soundtrack album has been announced.
