Opening in theaters nationwide is the action fantasy comedy Red One directed by Jake Kasdan and starring Dwayne Johnson, Chris Evans, Lucy Liu, J.K. Simmons, Kiernan Shipka, Bonnie Hunt, Kristofer Hivju, Nick Kroll and Wesley Kimmel. The film’s original music is composed by Henry Jackman (X-Men: First Class, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Wreck-It-Ralph, Kong: Skull Island, Big Hero 6, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Captain Phillips). Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today, as well as an original song by Laufey today. Opening in select theaters today before coming out on VOD next Friday, November 22, is the documentary The World According to Allee Willis directed by Alexis Spraic about the songwriter/artist and her struggle with not fitting established gender and sexual norms. Mark Mothersbaugh (Thor: Ragnarok, The Royal Tenenbaums, The LEGO Movie, The Croods: A New Age, 21/22 Jump Street, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) has composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. Opening in Los Angeles today following a release in New York last weekend is the drama Bird written and directed by Andrea Arnold and starring Barry Keoghan, Franz Rogowski and Nykiya Adams. Electronic music artist Burial has contributed original music (credited as “extra music”) to the project. Simon Astall serves as the project’s music supervisor. No soundtrack album has been announced yet. The movie, which revolves around a 12-year-old girl who lives with her single dad and brother in a squat in North Kent, premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and is being released by MUBI.
Receiving an awards-qualifying theatrical release today before making its streaming debut on December 11 (on jolt.film) is the documentary The Bibi Files directed by Alexis Bloom about Israeli prime minister Benjamin “Bibi” Netanyahu’s ongoing corruption trial. The film’s original music is composed by Will Bates (Dumb Money, Immaculate, The Magicians, Unbelievable, Away, I Origins, The Path, Bliss, The Looming Tower). No word on a soundtrack release. Also opening in select theaters today before premiering on December 13 on Disney+ is the documentary Elton John: Never Too Late directed by R.J. Cutler & David Furnish about the singer/songwriter’s life and his climactic farewell show at Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium. The film doesn’t feature an original score. Mercury Records has released the original song Never Too Late written and performed by John & Brandi Carlile today.
