Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the horror sequel Smile 2 written and directed by Parker Finn and starring Naomi Scott, Kyle Gallner, Rosemarie DeWitt, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Peter Jacobson, Raúl Castillo, Lukas Gage, Ray Nicholson and Dylan Gelula. The film’s original score is composed by Cristobal Tapia de Veer (The White LotusUtopiaThe Third Day, The Girl with All the Gifts) who previously scored the 2022 original movie. Interscope Records has released a soundtrack EP featuring the original songs from the movie performed by Scott (as her character Skye Riley) last Friday. A separate score album is expected to be coming out next week. Also opening nationwide is the comedy Goodrich written and directed by Hallie Meyers-Shyer and starring Michael Keaton, Mila Kunis, Lauren Benanti, Carmen Ejogo, Kevin Pollak, Michael Urie, Danny Deferrari, Nico Haraga, Viven Lyra Blair and Andie MacDowell. Christopher Willis (The Death of Stalin, The Personal History of David Copperfield, Veep, Schmigadoon!,The Wonderful World of Mickey MouseOld Dads) has composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. Also opening wide this weekend is the animated feature Gracie & Pedro: Pets to the Rescue! directed by Kevin Donovan & Gottfried Roodt and starring Bill Nighy, Susan Sarandon, Brooke Shields, Alicia Silverstone, Danny Trejo and Al Franken. The film’s original score is composed by Deon Van Heerden (Broforce, Warhammer 40,000: Shootas, Blood & Teef) who also co-wrote the original songs for the project. Second Chances Productions has released a soundtrack EP featuring the songs. Opening semi-wide in around 800 theaters is the drama Exhibiting Forgiveness written and directed by Titus Kaphar and starring André Holland, Andra Day (who also serves the project’s executive music producer), John Earl Jelks and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor. Jherek Bischoff (Organ Trail) has composed the film’s original score. Warner Records  has released the original song Bricks co-written by the composer and Day (who also performed by the track) as a digital single today. Opening in around 600 theaters is the comedy Rumours directed by Guy Maddin, Evan Johnson & Galen Johnson and starring Cate Blanchett, Alicia Vikander, Denis Ménochet, Roy Dupuis, Charles Dance, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Takehiro Hira, Rolando Ravello and Zlatko Burić. The film’s original music is composed by Kristian Eidnes Andersen (Antichrist, Ida, VivariumThe Playlist, The Man Who Saved the World, NobelPetra). Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Opening in select theaters this weekend before expanding nationwide in the coming weeks is the comedy drama Anora written and directed by Sean Baker and Mikey Madison, Mark Eydelshteyn, Yura Borisov, Karren Karagulian and Vache Tovmasyan. The movie doesn’t feature an original score. Matthew Hearon-Smith is the project’s music supervisor. No soundtrack album has been announced. The movie, which follows the turbulent relationship between a New York–based exotic dancer and the son of a Russian oligarch, premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and is being released by Neon.

Opening in New York today before expanding to more markets in the coming weeks is the thriller The Line co-written and directed by Ethan Berger and starring Alex Wolff, Lewis Pullman, Halle Bailey, Austin Abrams, Angus Cloud, Scoot McNairy and John Malkovich. Grizzly Bear’s Daniel Rossen (Past Lives) has composed the film’s original music. No word yet on a soundtrack release. Opening in select U.S. theaters today is the animated feature Kensuke’s Kingdom directed by Neil Boyle & Kirk Hendry and starring Sally Hawkins, Cillian Murphy, Raffey Cassidy, Aaron MacGregor and Ken Watanabe. The film’s original music is composed by Stuart Hancock (We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, AtlantisCrazyhead, Bodyguard: A New Beginning, One Night in Turin). MovieScore Media has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score this past summer when the movie opened in the UK. Opening in select theaters today before premiering on Netflix next Friday, October 25, is the documentary The Remarkable Life of Ibelin directed by Benjamin Ree about the secret life of a young World of Warcraft gamer who is vividly reimagined when his online friends contact his family after his death. Uno Helmersson (FleeThe Painter and the Thief, A Nearly Normal FamilyBobbi JeneThe Lion Woman, Magnus, The Absent One) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced yet. The movie premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival before being picked up by Netflix for worldwide distribution.

Also opening in select theaters today is the documentary Union directed by Stephen Maing and Bretty Story. The film’s original music is composed by Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe (Candyman, Telemarketers, Master, Power, Grasshopper Republic). No word on a soundtrack release. The movie, which centers on the Amazon Labor Union (ALU),  a group of current and former Amazon workers in Staten Island, who takes on one of the world’s largest and most powerful companies in the fight to unionize, premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is being released by Level Ground Productions.

Also opening in select U.S. theaters and on VOD today is the New Zealand adventure comedy Bookworm written and directed by Ant Timpson and starring Elijah Wood, Nell Fisher, Morgana O’Reilly, Michael Smiley, Vanessa Stacey, Theo Shakes and Nikki Si’ulepa. Karl Sölve Steven (Come to DaddyUproar, The Justice of Bunny KingThe Subtle Art of Not Giving a #@%!, The Girl on the Bridge) has composed the film’s original music. The composer has released a soundtrack album featuring his score this past August when the movie opened in New Zealand and Australia.
