Bryce Dessner (Cyrano, The Two Popes, Bardo, Irresistible, A Good Person, The Kitchen) of the rock band The National is reuniting with director Greg Kwedar on the the upcoming drama Sing Sing. The film starring Colman Domingo, Clarence Maclin, Paul Raci & Sean San José follows a theatre troupe who find escape from the realities of incarceration through the creativity of putting on a play. Kwedar also co-wrote the screenplay with Clint Bentley. They are both also producing the Black Bear Pictures with Monique Walton (Bull). Dessner has previously co-scored Kwedar’s 2016 feature directorial debut Transpecos and the Kwedar-produced and Bentley-directed 2021 movie Jockey (with Aaron Dessner). Sing Sing will premiere next month at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival.
Dessner’s other recent projects include Rebecca Miller’s She Came to Me, which premiered at this year’s Berlin Film Festival and will be released in U.S. theaters on September 29 by Vertical Entertainment, as well as Nicole Riegel’s Dandelion (co-scored with Aaron Dessner), which is currently awaiting a release date.
