Composer Theodore Shapiro (SeveranceThe Devil Wears Prada, A Simple Favor, Tropic Thunder, Ghostbusters, Marley & Me, Spy) is reuniting with director Jay Roach (Meet the Parents, Austin Powers) on the upcoming comedy The Roses. The film is a reimagining of Danny DeVito’s 1989 classic The War of the Roses (scored by David Newman), based on the novel by Warren Adler, and stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Olivia Colman, Andy Samberg, Allison Janney, Sunita Mani, Belinda Bromilow, Ncuti Gatwa, Zoë Chao, Jamie Demetriou and Kate McKinnon. The movie follows a married couple who fell madly in love when they first met, but whose marriage slowly unravels under the pressure of modern family dynamics. Tony McNamara (Poor Things, The Favourite) wrote the screenplay. Roach is also producing the project with Adam Ackland & Leah Clarke (We Live in iTme, The Mauritanian), Ed Sinclair (Wicked Little Letters, Landscapers), Tom Carver and Michelle Graham. Shapiro has previously collaborated with Roach on the director’s last four theatrical features, Dinner for Schmucks, The Campaign, Trumbo & Bombshell and also scored the filmmaker’s HBO movie Game Change. The Roses is scheduled to be released in theaters nationwide on August 29 by Searchlight Pictures.

Shapiro also continues to score Apple TV+’s Severance, which will return for a third season.
