Nainita Desai (For Sama, The Deepest Breath, The Tower, Crossfire, The Reason I Jump, Tales of Kenzera: ZAU, Funny Woman) is scoring the upcoming National Geographic documentary series OceanXplorers. The show is executive produced and narrated by James Cameron (Titanic, Avatar, Aliens) and takes audiences aboard the OceanXplorer, OceanX’s state-of-the-art scientific research and exploration vessel, to investigate the farthest frontiers of the world’s oceans, 80% of which are entirely unknown. The BBC Studios Natural History Unit production follows a group of National Geographic Explorers and other ocean experts as they embark on a global odyssey to solve some of the ocean’s greatest mysteries through the lives of its animals and their ecosystems. Cameron and Maria Wilhelm (Secrets of the Whales) are executive producing the 6-parter for Lightstorm Earth, alongside Roger Webb (Mammals) and Orla Doherty for BBC Studios, Ray Dalio, Mark Dalio, Vincent Pieribone & Joe Ruffolo for OceanX, as well as Kevin Tao Mohs. OceanXplorers will premiere on August 18 on National Geographic and will also be available to stream on Hulu and Disney+.
Desai’s other recent projects include the adventure series Nautilus, which will premiere this year on AMC.
