THR is reporting that singer/songwriter, jazz pianist and composer Jon Batiste (Soul, American Symphony, The First Wave) has been tapped to score the upcoming biographical comedy drama SNL 1975. The film is directed by Jason Reitman (Juno, Up in the Air, Ghostbusters: Afterlife) and stars Gabriel LaBelle as SNL creator Lorne Michaels, alongside Cooper Hoffman, Rachel Sennott, Matt Wood, Ella Hunt, Cory Michael Smith, Dylan O’Brien, Lamorne Morris, J.K. Simmons, Emily Fairn, Kim Matula, Andrew Barth Feldman, Kaia Gerber and Finn Wolfhard . The movie tells the behind the scenes story of what happened in the moments leading up to the first broadcast of NBC’s Saturday Night Live. Batiste will also appear in the drama as keyboardist and singer Billy Preston who was the show’s first musical guest. Reitman also co-wrote the screenplay with Gil Kenan (Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Monster House). They are both also producing the project with Jason Blumenfeld and Peter Rice SNL 1975 just started principal photography this month and will be released by Sony Pictures. No release date has been announced yet.
