Thomas Newman (American Beauty, The Shawshank Redemption, 1917, Skyfall) has been tapped to score the upcoming animated feature Elemental. The film is directed by Peter Sohn (The Good Dinosaur) and features the voices of Leah Lewis and Mamoudou Athie. The movie is set in Element City, where fire-, water-, land- and air-residents live together and revolves around a tough, quick-witted and fiery young woman, whose friendship with a fun, sappy, go-with-the-flow guy challenges her beliefs about the world they live in. Denise Ream is producing the Pixar Animation Studios production. Newman has previously scored Pixar’s Finding Nemo, Wall-E and Finding Dory. Elemental is set to be released in theaters nationwide on June 16, 2023 by Walt Disney Pictures.

Newman’s other recent projects include Marc Forster’s A Man Called Otto, which is currently playing in theaters and White Bird: A Wonder Story, which will be released on August 18 by Lionsgate.

Welcome back, Thomas Newman. It’s great to see you compose the score for a Pixar movie once again after 7 whole years.

  6. Hunter Wright says:

I am surprised that Thomas Newman is the composer of Elemental, I was expecting Steven Price or James Newton Howard. But, anyways, I am curious about where the score is being recorded. It’s either the Newman Scoring Stage at Fox Studios or the Streisand Scoring Stage at Sony Pictures Studios, or most likely both.
