THR is reporting that Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, The Prince of Egypt, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame) has composed the original music for a new musical film adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol from Walt Disney Pictures. The movie, entitled Marley, will be directed by Bill Condon (Chicago, Beauty and the Beast, Dreamgirls, Mr. Holmes), and is told through the eyes of Jacob Marley, the deceased business partner of Ebenezer Scrooge. Condon also wrote the screenplay. Dan Jinks (American Beauty, Big Fish, Milk) and Greg Yolen (The Good Liar) are producing the project. Marley is currently in development. No word yet on a release date.
Schwartz has several other movie projects in development, including a live-action version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. He also wrote new songs for the upcoming film adaptation of Wicked, which is currently set to be released on December 22, 2021 by Universal Pictures.
Hopefully he writes the score as well!
