Three new movies are opening nationwide this week:
Opening in most theaters is the sci-fi action adventure Alita: Battle Angel directed by Robert Rodriguez, produced by James Cameron and starring Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein and Jackie Earle Haley. The film’s original music is composed by Tom Holkenborg (aka Junkie XL) (Mad Max: Fury Road, Deadpool, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice). Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score (click here for the full album details). Also available now is the original end credits track Swan Song performed by Dua Lipa (click here for more information).
Also opening wide is the slasher sequel Happy Death Day 2U directed by Christopher Landon and starring Jessica Rothe, Israel Broussard, Phi Vu, Suraj Sharma and Ruby Modine. Bear McCreary (10 Cloverfield Lane, The Walking Dead, Outlander) has composed the film’s original music. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening nationwide is the romantic comedy Isn’t It Romantic directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson and starring Rebel Wilson, Liam Hemsworth, Adam Devine, Priyanka Chopra, Betty Gilpin and Brandon Scott Jones. The film’s original music is composed by John Debney (The Passion of the Christ, The Jungle Book, Elf, Iron Man 2). Opening in limited release before expanding nationwide next weekend is the comedy Fighting with My Family written and directed by Stephen Merchant and starring Florence Pugh, Lena Headey, Nick Frost, Jack Lowden, Vince Vaughn and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Vik Sharma (Hello Ladies) has composed the film’s original score. A soundtrack album featuring the songs from the movie is expected to be released within the next few weeks by Island Records. Also opening in limited release is the drama Donnybrook written and directed by Tim Sutton and starring Jamie Bell, Frank Grillo, Margaret Qualley and James Badge Dale. The film’s original music is composed by Phil Mossman (Cop Car, Another Earth, I Origins). No word yet on a soundtrack release. The drama is being released in select theaters by IFC Films and will also be available on VOD starting on February 22. Also opening in select cities this week is the drama Birds of Passage (Pájaros de verano) directed by Cristina Gallego & Ciro Guerra and starring Carmiña Martínez, José Acosta, Natalia Reyes, Jhon Narváez, Greider Meza, José Vincente Cote and Juan Bautista Martínez. Leonardo Heiblum (Maria Full of Grace, The Golden Dream) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been released. Also opening in select U.S. theaters is the British family comedy Patrick co-written and directed by Mandie Fletcher and starring Beattie Edmondson, Ed Skrein, Jennifer Saunders, Milanka Brooks and Gemma Jones. The film’s original music is composed by Michael Price (Sherlock, Unforgotten, A Fantastic Fear of Everything). Globe has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last summer when the movie opened overseas. Opening in select IMAX theaters is the documentary Great Bear Rainforest directed by Ian McAllister and narrated by Ryan Reynolds. Hans Zimmer (Gladiator, Inception, The Dark Knight, The Lion King) has composed the film’s main title theme for the upcoming IMAX documentary Great Bear Rainforest and Anže Rozman has written the score for Bleeding Fingers Music and produced by Russell Emanuel. Another limited release is the biographical drama The Maestro directed by Adam Cushman and starring Xander Berkeley, Leo Marks, Sarah Clarke, Jon Polito, Mackenzie Astin, Joëlle Séchaud, William Russ, as well as John White as Jerry Goldsmith and Andrew Pifko as Henry Mancini. The film’s original music is composed by Lucas Elliot Eberl. The movie tells the story of budding film composer Jerry Herst as he moves to Hollywood to study with infamous master teacher Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco. The drama is being released by Freestyle Digital Media.
