Alan Menken has composed the original score for the upcoming documentary Howard. The film is directed by Don Hahn (Waking Sleeping Beauty) who produced numerous Disney productions, including Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King and The Nightmare Before Christmas. The movie centers on the legendary lyricist Howard Ashman who penned the lyrics and collaborated with Menken on Little Shop of Horrors, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast before he passed away at the height of the AIDS crisis in 1991. Hahn is also producing the project with Lori Korngiebel. Howard will premiere next month at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival.
Menken’s other upcoming projects also include Disney’s live-action adaptations of Aladdin and The Little Mermaid.
