The only movie opening nationwide this week is the dramatic thriller All the Money in the World directed by Ridley Scott and starring Michelle Williams, Christopher Plummer, Mark Wahlberg, Romain Duris, Charlie Plummer and Timothy Hutton. The film’s original music is composed by Daniel Pemberton (Steve JobsMolly’s GameThe Man from U.N.C.L.E.King Arthur: Legend of the SwordGold). Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last week. Check out our previous news article for the full album details. Daniel Pemberton has also composed the music for the drama Molly’s Game written and directed by Aaron Sorkin and starring Jessica Chastain, Idris Elba, Kevin Costner, Michael Cera, Jeremy Strong, Chris O’Dowd and Bill Camp. The STX Entertainment release opened in over 250 theaters on December 25 and will expand nationwide on January 5.

Now playing in Los Angeles and New York before expanding to more markets next year is the drama Phantom Thread written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Lesley Manville and Vicky Krieps. The film’s original music is composed by Jonny Greenwood (We Need to Talk About Kevin) who previously collaborated with Anderson on There Will Be BloodThe Master and Inherent Vice. Nonesuch Records will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music in January. Also now playing in limited release is the German drama In the Fade written and directed by Fatih Akin and starring Diane Kruger, Denis Moschitto, Numan Acar and Johannes Krisch. Queens of the Stone Age member Joshua Homme has composed the film’s original music. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring Homme’s score, as well as songs by Faith No More, Lykke Li, Courtney Bartnett & more. Opening in select theaters today is the romantic drama Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool directed by Paul McGuigan and starring Annette Bening, Jamie Bell, Vanessa Redgrave and Julie Walters. The film’s original music is composed by J. Ralph (Lucky Number Slevin, The Cove, Chasing Ice, Chasing Extinction). No word yet on a score release. Verve and Decca Records have released the film’s original song You Shouldn’t Look at Me That Way written, orchestrated and performed by Elvis Costello.
