Daniel Pemberton has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming heist comedy drama Ocean’s 8. The film is directed by Gary Ross (The Hunger Games, Seabiscuit, Pleasantville) and stars Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna and Helena Bonham Carter. The movie is a spin-off of Steven Soderbergh’s Oceans trilogy and revolves around eight women who plan and execute a heist in New York. Ross also co-wrote the screenplay with Olivia Milch (Dude). Soderbergh (Traffic, Erin Brockovich) is producing the project with Jon Kilik (Foxcatcher, 25th Hour, Babel). Nicholas Britell was originally attached to score the film as reported last year. Pemberton (Steve Jobs, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., King Arthur: Legend of the Sword) also has recently scored Ridley Scott’s All the Money in the World and Aaron Sorkin’s Molly’s Game (both to be released in theaters later this month, as well as the Black Mirror episode USS Callister (set to premiere on December 29 on Netflix). The composer also has the British drama Scarborough directed by Barnaby Southcombe and starring Jodhi May, Jordan Bolger and Jessica Barden coming up. The movie based on Fiona Evans’ play about two dangerously charged teacher-pupil relationships will premiere in 2018.
