Five new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in mos theater is the disaster movie Geostorm directed by Dean Devlin and starring Gerard Butler, Jim Sturgess, Abbie Cornish, Daniel Wu, Ed Harris and Andy Garcia. The album features the film’s original music is composed by Lorne Balfe (The LEGO Batman Movie, Genius, Home, Terminator Genisys, Megamind). Also opening wide is the action drama Only the Brave directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring Josh Brolin, Miles Teller, Jeff Bridges, James Badge Dale, Taylor Kitsch & Jennifer Connelly. Joseph Trapanese (Oblivion, Insurgent, Straight Outta Compton, The Raid: Redemption) has composed he film’s original score. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score (click here for more details). Capitol Records Nashville has released a separate soundtrack featuring songs from and inspired by the film, including an original song (click here for more information).
Another wide release this week is the thriller The Snowman directed by Tomas Alfredson and starring Michael Fassbender, Rebecca Ferguson, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Val Kilmer and J.K. Simmons. The film’s original music is composed by Marco Beltrami (3:10 to Yuma, The Hurt Locker, Logan, World War Z, Scream). Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Expected to top the weekend box office is the comedy sequel Boo 2! A Madea Halloween written and directed by Tyler Perry who also stars in the movie with Cassi Davis, Tito Ortiz, Yousef Erakat, Patrice Lovely, Lexy Panterra, Andre Hall and Brock O’Hurn. Christopher Lennertz (Horrible Bosses, Baywatch, Bad Moms) is composing has written the themes and Philip White has composed the score for the movie. No soundtrack album has been announced. Also opening nationwide is the drama Same Kind of Different as Me written and directed by Michael Carney and starring Greg Kinnear, Renee Zellweger, Jon Voight, Djimon Hounsou and Olivia Holt. The film’s original music is composed by John Paesano (Daredevil, The Maze Runner, Pacific Rim Uprising, The Defenders). Sony Classical has released soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the original song Stubborn Angels by Brad Paisley and a track by Ann Peebles. Opening in New York and Los Angeles before expanding to more markets over the next couple of weeks is the drama Wonderstruck is directed by Todd Haynes and starring Julianne Moore, Oakes Fegley, Michelle Williams and Millicent Simmonds. Carter Burwell (Carol, Fargo, Twilight, In Bruges, True Grit) has composed the film’s original music. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today in two different editions. Also opening in limited release is the the drama The Killing of a Sacred Deer co-written and directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and starring Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman, Barry Keoghan, Raffey Cassidy, Bill Camp and Alicia Silverstone. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the classical pieces as featured in the movie by J.S Bach, Franz Schubert and Gyorgy Ligeti, score cues by accordion player Janne Raettya, as well as songs by Ellie Goulding & more. Opening in New York this weekend before expanding to more cities within the next couple of weeks is the French drama BPM (Beats Per Minute) written and directed by Robin Campillo and starring Nahuel Pérez Biscayart, Arnaud Valois, Adèle Haenel, Antoine Reinartz, Félix Maritaud and Ariel Borenstein. Also opening in select theaters this week is the horror thriller Leatherface directed by and starring. The film’s original music is composed by John Frizzell (Office Space, The Following, Dante’s Peak, Texas Chainsaw 3D, Alien: Resurrection). No soundtrack album has been released. The prequel follows a teenage Leatherface who escapes from a mental hospital with three other inmates. The movie is being released in theaters and on VOD by Lionsgate Premiere.
Also opening in select cities is the thriller Jungle directed by Greg McLean and starring Daniel Radcliffe, Thomas Kretschman, Alex Russell and Joel Jackson. Johnny Klimek (Cloud Atlas, One Hour Photo, Sense8, The International, Run Lola Run) has composed the film’s original music. The thriller, which follows an enthusiastic young adventurer follows his dreams into the Amazon jungle with two friends and a guide with a mysterious past, is being released in theaters and on VOD by Momentum Pictures.
Another limited release this week is the comedy drama The Bachelors written and directed by Kurt Voelker and starring J.K. Simmons, Josh Wiggins, Julie Delpy and Odeya Rush. The film’s original music is composed by Joel P West (Short Term 12, The Glass Castle, Grandma, Band of Robbers). No word yet on a soundtrack release. The movie follows a mourning father who moves across the country with his teenage son for a private school teaching job, after the early death of his wife. The dramedy is being released in theaters and on VOD by Freestyle Digital Media.
Also opening in limited release is the thriller Never Here written and directed by Camille Thoman and starring. James Lavino (Wiener-Dog, Unlocking the Cage, Code Black) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced yet. The movie centers around an artist who follows and photographs strangers when disturbing events lead her to suspect she’s being watched. The thriller is being released by Vertical Entertainment.
Also opening in select theaters is the action mockumentary Killing Gunther written and directed by Taran Killam and starring himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bobby Moynihan, Cobie Smulders, Paul Brittain, Hannah Simone, Alison Tolman and Ryan Gaul. The film’s original music is composed by Dino Meneghin (Teen Wolf). No word on a soundtrack album. The movie follows a group of eccentric assassins who are fed up with Gunther, the world’s greatest hit-man and decide to kill him.. The comedy is being released by Saban Films.
