Grégoire Hetzel is currently scoring the upcoming drama Ismael’s Ghosts (Les fantômes d’Ismaël). The film is written and directed by Arnaud Desplechin (Esther Kahn) and stars Marion Cotillard, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Mathieu Amalric and Louis Garrel. The movie follows a widowed film director who is in the middle of making a film about an atypical diplomat inspired by his brother when her life is sent into a tailspin by the return of a former lover. Desplechin co-wrote the screenplay with Julie Peyr and Lea Mysius. Pascal Caucheteux (A Prophet, The Red Turtle) and Vincent Maraval (The Neon Demon, Enter the Void) are producing the project. Hetzel and Desplechin have previously collaborated on movies including My Golden Days, A Christmas Tale and Kings & Queens. Ismael’s Ghosts is expected to premiere later this year and will be distributed in the U.S. by Magnolia Pictures.
Hetzel (Incendies, The Tree) has also recently scored the French drama The Midwife (Sage femme) directed by Martin Provost and starring Catherine Deneuve and Catherine Frot. The movie premiered in January at the Berlin Film Festival and will be released in French theaters later this month.
