Zbigniew Preisner has signed on to score the upcoming comedy drama The Queen of Spain. The film is written and directed by Fernando Trueba (Belle Epoque, Chica & Rita) and stars Penelope Cruz, Antonio Resines, Clive Revill, Mandy Patinkin and Cary Elwes. The movie is the sequel to the 1998 feature The Girl of Your Dreams (scored by Antoine Duhamel) and centers on movie star Macarena Granada, who flees the glitz and glamour of Hollywood in 1956 to return to her roots in Madrid, where she has signed on to star in an epic Hollywood film. The Queen of Spain is expected to premiere later this year.
Preisner whose best known film scoring credits include The Secret Garden and the Three Colors series also has the thriller Lies We Tell coming up. The film is directed by Mitu Misra and stars Gabriel Byrne, Harvey Keitel, Sibylla Deen, Emily Atack and Jan Uddin. Andy McDermott, Malcolm Scott and Daniel Gulliver are producing the project. The movie is set to be released later this year.
