David Mansfield is reuniting with director Maggie Greenwald on the upcoming romantic drama Sophie and the Rising Sun. The film is written and directed by Greenwald and stars Julianne Nicholson, Margo Martindale, Lorraine Toussaint, Takashi Yamaguchi, Diane Ladd and Joel Murray. The movie is set in a Southern town in 1941 and follows a woman whose life is transformed when an Asian man arrives under mysterious circumstances. Greenwald is also producing the project with Brenda Goodman, Nancy Dickenson and Lorraine Gallard. Mansfield has previously collaborated with Greenwald on such films as Songcatcher, The Ballad of Little Jo and The Last Keepers. The composer’s other best known previous scoring credits include Transamerica, Heaven’s Gate, Year of the Dragon, Desperate Hours, The Sicilian and The Apostle. Sophie and the Rising Sun will premiere in January at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival.
