Three new movies are opening nationwide this week:
Already in theaters since Wednesday is the action thriller No Escape directed by John Erick Dowdle and starring Owen Wilson, Pierce Brosnan and Lake Bell. The film’s original music is composed by Marco Beltrami (Scream, I, Robot, World War Z, 3:10 to Yuma, Hellboy) and Buck Sanders (Warm Bodies, The Hurt Locker). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score, as well as the song Take Care of You by Jim James. Also opening wide this week is the drama We Are Your Friends directed by Max Joseph and starring Zac Efron, Emily Ratajkowski, Wes Bentley, Shiloh Fernandez, Alex Shaffer, Jonny Weston and Jon Bernthal. Segal aka Matthew Simpson (Skins) has composed the film’s original score. Interscope Records has released a soundtrack album featuring tracks by EDM artists including Justice, Tchami, Will Sparks, Dom Dolla, Hayden James, The Magician, Years & Years, The Americanos & more. Opening in around 1000 theaters is the faith-based drama War Room directed by Alex Kendrick and starring Priscilla Shirer, Alex Kendrick, T.C. Stallings, Michael Jr., Karen Abercrombie and Alena Pitts. The film’s original score is composed by Paul Mills (Against the Sun, October Baby). Opening in limited release is the sci-fi drama Z for Zachariah directed by Craig Zobel and starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Margot Robbie and Chris Pine. Heather McIntosh (Faults, Honeymoon, Manson Family Vacation) who previously collaborated with Zobel on 2012’s Compliance has composed the film’s original music. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening in select cities is the indie thriller Queen of Earth written and directed by Alex Ross Perry and starring Elisabeth Moss, Katherine Waterston, Patrick Fugit and Kate Lyn Sheil. The film’s original music is composed by Keegan DeWitt (I’ll See You in My Dreams, Land Ho!, Unexpected) who previously scored the director’s Listen Up Philip. Another limited release this week is the indie drama A Reason written and directed by Dominique Schilling and starring Magda Apanowicz, Nick Eversman, Marion Ross, Roxanne Hart, Ron Melendez and Madeleine Falk. The film’s original music is composed by Kim Planert (Missing). MovieScore Media has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music. A Reason follows a young, gay introvert and her controlling older brother who are forced to endure a dreaded family gathering at the house of their elegant elderly aunt to hear the reading of her will. Also opening in limited release is the Danish horror romance When Animals Dream directed by Jonas Ambry and starring Sonia Suhl, Lars Mikkelsen, Sonja Richter and Jakob Oftebro. Mikkel Hess has composed the film’s original music. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as tracks by Christian Risgaard, Marie Fisker, MØ & more was released last year when the movie opened overseas.
