Three new movies are opening nationwide this week:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the action comedy Spy directed by Jude Law and starring Melissa McCarthy, Jason Statham, Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale, Allison Janney, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Miranda Hart and Jude Law. The film’s original music is composed by Theodore Shapiro (The Devil Wears Prada, Tropic Thunder). Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the original song Who Can You Trust, which he co-wrote with Craig Wedren and is performed Ivy Levan. Also opening wide is the horror sequel Insidious: Chapter 3 directed by Leigh Whannell and starring Dermot Mulroney, Stefanie Scott, Lin Shaye, Steve Coulter, Angus Sampson, Hayley Kiyoko and Ashton Moio, Joseph Bishara (The Conjuring, Annabelle) who previously scored the first two parts in the series has composed the film’s original music. Already in theaters since Wednesday is the film adaptation of HBO’s Entourage directed by Doug Ellin and starring Kevin Connolly, Adrian Grenier, Kevin Dillon, Jerry Ferrara and Jeremy Piven. WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film, including the main titles track Superhero by Jane’s Addiction, as well as songs by Royal Blood, Pharrell Williams, A-Trak, The National, Du Tonc, Diplo, DJ Snake feat. Opening semi-wide in almost 500 theaters is the biographical drama Love & Mercy directed by Bill Pohlad and starring John Cusack, Paul Dano, Elizabeth Banks and Paul Giamatti. The film’s original score is composed by Atticus Ross (The Social Network, Gone Girl, The Book of Eli). No word on a soundtrack album. Love & Mercy examines the personal voyage and ultimate salvation of Brian Wilson, the singer, songwriter and leader of The Beach Boys, whose success came at extraordinary personal cost. Opening in New York and Los Angeles before expanding to more markets next weekend is the historical drama Testament of Youth directed by James Kent and starring Alicia Vikander, Kit Harington, Taron Egerton, Dominic West, Emily Watson, Colin Morgan and Miranda Richardson. Max Richter (The Leftovers, Waltz with Bashir, Disconnect) has composed the film’s original music. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music. Also opening in limited release is the drama Hungry Hearts written and directed by Saverio Costanzo and starring Adam Driver, Alba Rohrwacher and Roberta Maxwell. The film’s original music is composed by Oscar winner Nicola Piovani (Life is Beautiful). Emergency Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music earlier this year when the movie opened overseas. Also opening in select cities is the western Wild Horses directed by Robert Duvall who also stars in the film alongside James Franco, Josh Hartnett, Luciana Duvall, Adriana Barraza, Angie Cepeda and Jim Parrack. Timothy Williams (Sym-Bionic Titans, Walking with the Enemy) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced. Wild Horses centers on the impact on a Texas rancher’s family when the Texas Rangers reopen an investigation into a missing person case. Also opening in select theaters is the drama Dawn Patrol directed by Daniel Petrie Jr. and starring Scott Eastwood, Rita Wilson, Chris Brochu and Jeff Fahey. The film’s original music is composed by Joe Kraemer (Jack Reacher, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation), as well as the songs from the movie by Donovan Frankenreiter, Safety Orange, Guardian Ghost & Up the Anesthetic and Rita Wilson & Matt Nathanson. Also opening in limited release is the drama United Passions directed by Frederic Auburtin and starring Gérard Depardieu, Tim Roth, Sam Neill, Thomas Kretschmann and Fisher Stevens. The film’s original music is composed by Jean-Pascal Beintus. Music Box Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last year when the movie opened overseas.
