john-ottmanJohn Ottman has officially signed on to score X-Men: Apocalypse. The film is directed by Bryan Singer and star Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassebender, Nicholas Hoult, Evan Peters and Rose Byrne who return in their roles from X-Men: First Class and Days of Future Past. They are joined by new cast members Sophie Turner who will play Jean Grey, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, as well as Oscar Isaacs and Ben Hardy. Simon Kinberg who scripted the previous film in the franchise is writing the screenplay for the sequel, which takes place in the 1980s. Singer and Kinberg are also producing the project with Lauren Shuler Donner and Hutch Parker. Ottman will also once again serve as the film’s editor. The composer has previously scored and edited Singer’s X2 and last year’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. X-Men: Apocalypse is set to be released on May 27, 2016 by 20th Century Fox.

  1. Macejko says:

Great! Now they can team him up with Beltrami in the ultimate ear-bleeding event!

    • Mr. Big says:

Have you ever been positive about anything?

Anyway, Ottman should do a fine job.

  2. Tor says:

Just as long as they’ve hired ‘Jack the Giant Slayer’ Ottman. ‘Days of Future Past’/who gives a shit? Ottman makes me sad.

  3. Roger says:

how he composes and edits the same film is astonishing

  4. Linkword says:

    Macejko is stupid hater

    • BB says:

I agree! The guy is a jerk and ignorant. For he who does not make a “sound design” equal to Hans Zimmer and his cronies do not deserve any respect. John Ottman might not even have many scores in the curriculum, but a good composer yes! The score of Jack, is there to prove it. Hans Zimmer could never make a score that size and quality thematic.

      • Linkword says:

He is simply teenager or child. I prefer the music of John Williams and other old masters living or dead. The music that defined the so-called Hollywood sound – Rozsa, Korngold, Herrmann, Steiner, Waxman, Newman,Sr., North, Bernstein, Goldsmith…Sorry, my english isn’t very good πŸ™‚

        • Macejko says:

Well good for you, with most of them truly being dead I’m sure you’ll have a plenty of new, tasteful music to listen to. Oh wait…
Your love for progress isn’t very good either. Although I’m 22 year old male, I imagine YOU as an old, cranky grandpa sitting on a porch and yelling at kids to get the hell out of your lawn. With those old, delightful scores playing on your rusty gramophone (because since those “walkman” thingies the world clearly took a Satan’s route).
As for you, BB, my old and beloved adversary – John Ottman has in fact a pretty good number of scores in his curriculum… and I’m still waiting for a day when he finally grasps the concept of a “theme” and how it is supposed to work in a movie. FYI, no, it isn’t just a thing you put on opening and closing credits (and I know I just blew your mind, so feel free to take a five to process it).

          • Linkword says:

Shut up please and leave this page! You don’t understand the music…and
why are you so ugly? :O weah very ugly unsympathetic Slovakian πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ https://www.facebook.com/matej.vojtko

          • Ds says:

“no, it isn’t just a thing you put on opening and closing credits”

So true. I remember being positively surprised by the main theme for “Non- Stop”… only to discover this theme was NOWHERE in the movie. Apparently it’s because some ghostwriter composed the entire thing while Ottman was “scoring” (or rather editing) Days of Future Past.

          • BB says:

Man, I’ll tell you the same thing you told me long ago: you are a lost cause! Ten people who listen to the score of Jack, nine like it! And you still say Smarty of scores; says Brian Tyler uses Remote Controls, but can not prove … Does the following: will comfort the Hans Zimmer, who should be crying today by losing the Oscar for Alexandre Desplat (another composer you DO NOT KNOW enjoy)

      • Ds says:

You must be absolutely deaf if you really think the scores for “King Arthur”, “The Last Samurai”, “At World’s End” or “Pearl Harbor” are sound design.

        • Macejko says:

I believe it was even confirmed that Johnny-O didn’t compose all that much of it.

        • Linkword says:

I like orchestral scores because they have a soul but I respect your opinion πŸ™‚ Macejko is TROLL do not react to his comments πŸ™‚

        • BB says:

But not, will tell me that most of the Man of Steel score is harmonious?

  5. Macejko says:

Oh, you don’t like me? That’s bad, because I’m in fact your real father. Go to your room.
